Yup but that didn't stop 3 of my drivers from getting egregious HOS violations last night.

I want to add that I never did it while under a load or dispatched on a load. Only while empty and to the closest area to park. If there was an off duty driving option I would have used that. When it happened while I still was on paper logs I just logged off duty and nothing was ever said about it. If I would have had an accident while driving off duty I would just explain that I was unladen and therefore off duty and going to the nearest place to park.
If I had been under a load I would just have left it on the drive line and put a note on the logs explaining why I had to drive over my time. Driving a truck unladen and off duty is perfectly legal. Logging off duty and driving while you are under a load is not legal. That's the way I interpreted the law and that's what I'll continue to do. -
Bigdubber and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

This whole logging off and driving with no one logged in is non sense. There is no point in hiding something that you can't control. Roehl will tell you that your suppose to be prepared for these situations, in which they mean if you know the customer is going take 4 - 5 hours to unload you and all you have 3hrs and 45 minute left then call in to have it rescheduled. Specially if the customer doesn't allow overnight parking.
It saves you the headache and a HOS violation.
Can't say that they won't work with you, everytime I've run into this issue Roehl had never forced me to do it. And I'm deff not going to log out or falsify logs. I don't get paid enough to do that.
Also this has worked for me multiple times, and with permission from your FM ask the customer if you can drop your trailer in the door and go to the nearest truck stop to take a 10 hour break. Over the phone before you get there of course. This way you don't have to screw around sitting there. Now you will have to eat unpaid miles but if that's what it takes to save me a headache, I'm more then happy to do it. -
So I'm laying in the bunk reading a book chilling, and I hear a loud boom, boom, boom. Truck didn't shake but as you all know you hear stuff like that and look. Right in front of me a reefer was going by, and a car hauler had turned right into his right side. I think the hauler was setting up to back in so as he turned right to set up the reefer went by, also this is the lane to get to the fuel island so heavy traffic.
