Is there any flatbed drivers on here? I have a few questions for you.

Hey is anyone interested in signing a petition to get the layover pay increased? Roehl claims to have a competitive pay program but the layover pay isn't very competitive. My goal is to make 150 dollars a day that I'm on the road. Layover pay does not even pay half of that. 65 dollars for 24 hours or more is not good enough for me. My time is worth at least 10 dollars an hour. As a newbie I make .32×62 an hour. That close to 20 dollars. 62 is how fast my truck goes with cruise set. So I think it's only fair that I get at least half of that, if I HAVE to set due to no fault of my own. I'm sure a petition with over half the fleet signatures will gets someone attention. I can't afford to be away from home and sit.

I have decided that I would like to switch over to flatbed. I met a few drivers that drive flatbed a week ago. I called Mitch Lagrand last week. He said that since I lived in fl it would be hard for me. He said that the company is opening a flatbed terminal in Birmingham in a few months. Before I make the decision of switching. Is the miles and pay worth it? Also is there a lot of downtime? Is the driving different than van? I want to do it for the physical aspect. I am physically in shape and thought it would be fun to do. Any freed back from experience flatbed drivers input would be helpful.

Well from what Mitch has just told it sounds like it will be hard for you to get good miles and even harder to get you home.

He said to call back in march. So I wanted to see what other drivers thought before I called back. Just from their experience with driving and if they liked it.

How do you guys watch tv when you're on a 34 hour reset in the newer trucks without the inverters?

Getting guys home to FL was always tough on flatbed. It's possible but often times you'd be late, or really early. Lots of DH miles and hard time loading back out of FL. That being said I have no idea what freight is like there now. I could be better and might be easier than it used to be. I'm sure that Mitch will steer you right, if he can't keep you busy he wont bring you on.

I run refer and I think that $10.00 for detention is terrible...so get to make $5.00 after you have been sitting there 2.5 hours, let alone if you get there early. I was talking to another driver for a different company and they get $25 @ 2 hr and 1 min. Roehl is charging them a whole lot more for us to be sitting there!
