My trainer gave me the option to either drive from N to S through Chicago with him in the co-driver seat or do it myself later without him. I did it with him in the seat. Now I trip plan accordingly and either stop at Gary (S to N) or at the state line at the TA (N to S). Sometimes you just can't hit it just right and have to just go.

Oh yeah I learned the very hard way. When I was very new, with another company, I failed to trip plan properly, ended up hitting Chicago around 16:45 on a Friday. Over 3 hours just to get through the city, never did that again, you gain nothing, just burn up fuel and drive time and go nowhere.

My first time driving through Chicago during rush hour was day 3 in evo 1. I made it all the way through with no problems except a sore knee. Get on the 80/94 to head into Gary and at some exit I don't recall which a car decides to ride next to me the whole time in the exit only lane. At the last minute he puts on his blinker but I had nowhere to go at this point and he had to get off...after telling me I was number one. My trainer looked at me and said, "you know that car just had to get off the freeway because you wouldn't let him over." I told him, "I have a line of cars and a truck over here on this side. Sorry." He says, "Oh well...f*** him if he can't take a joke."

Anyway...I'm at truck world on i80 in ohio. Delivered in Northumberland this morning then grabbed a load of lumber out of Brookville, PA. Heading up by Appleton to deliver Monday.

I'm actually glad clocks move up an hour tonight. At least it will shorten this boring sitting a little.

Sitting home, been a good trip this time, 19 days 7600 miles. Would have been home yesterday but MA and NH got hammered with snow yesterday and it slowed me down.

Planners can only work with loads that are given to them. Even at times, especially weekends, the freight just isn't there in some parts of the our service areas. You dropped into a black hole. Freight in but nothing out until Sunday night when many shippers release the loads for the upcoming week. It is frustrating but sitting happens to all of us from time to time.
