That is part of the problem, finding "good" drivers. The current crop of drivers is behind all the rules that companies have put in place. Gotta love truck driving.

How many new drivers have any clue what their fuel mileage is or take pride in getting the most out of their truck? Let's face it for company drivers the more miles the more pay, so who cares about mpg, or the company's bottom line. Drive as fast and far as possible.

I have been trying a new climbing technique I heard about. It drives you nuts with how slow you end up climbing, but it reduces the stress on the truck. Basically drop gears as fast as you can till you find a gear you can climb with the pedal about half way down, but with the rpms about 1300. It's amazing how much less the truck has to work.

I thought we made some dumb hires when I was at roehl, now I would take those drivers that I wanted to turn away before. It's scary out there guys, be glad you are with a company that cares

ya know if they really care about their drivers and want to slow down the crazy turn over rate we have, make the mileage standard so its possible to achieve for regional and any of the home time fleets, I dont care how good your mpgs are ,or if all your deliverys are on time , and you are the safe driver with no tickets or accidents. If you cant make the mileage standard
that means no raise no bonus no nothing ! :biggrin_25510:

I run all the miles roehl dispatches to me, Ive been on regional and hometime fleets and Ive brought this up with my fleet manager and he agrees but his hands are tied. I like roehl, I just think they could adjust
the mileage standard to reflect the freight volume so a driver feels that he or she has a realistic chance at a raise. :yes2557:

I have the same problem with their supposed free base plates. Less than 9500 miles a month and you pay for your own plates. I haven't seen 9000, leave alone 9500 miles.

What they don't understand is that by tying bonuses to mileage they take away any motivation on the part of drivers to keep idle time down, mpgs up, etc. So now you are relying on the integrity of your drivers. You better have some good drivers who do what's right for the sake of doing right since you've taken away any financial incentive.

I drove the #### outa my truck when i worked for roehl. got a 6.4mpg and 5.1 in winter. I ran 3400+ miles a week and never once heard a complaint from my FM she just kept giving me loads and I didnt have a worry in the world.

When did you work there, the MPG thing is only like a year or two old. As for tying the raises to your mpg performance I find that backwards. I was a big PITA when it came to that, guys would achieve there MPG and idle but never get a raise. Its not the drivers fault when there Aren't enough miles. Raises should be based on time with the company, bonuses should be tied to performance

I believe it was sometime in late 2008 when roehl raised the mileage standard across the board. Then in 09 the freight market went in the crapper. Its easy to see why roehl did this PROFIT. With the steady flow of newbies coming into their training centers and starting these drivers at a low base pay, roehl dosent have to worry about incentives.

The new driver wants to prove him or herself and do a good job hopeing
for that elusive raise in pay. Im sure you would have to go national and live in your trk with minimal home time to make this happen.
Out of all the drivers that have submitted to this forum and been truthfull about their miles (majestic) is the only one that made the mileage standard that I know of.

Roehl is a good safe carrier to drive for and I believe they could make it better for drivers by revising their incentive programs and at the same time improve their bottom line and start keeping those good drivers and bring their massive turn over rate down.:yes2557:
