Sorry about that, us o/os hang out in all the threads just like we did when we were company drivers.
I would recommend that every driver carry a basic set of tools and learn how to make minor repairs. Just knowing how to adjust the trailer brakes can save you hours when you need slide the tandems, but the brakes are so out of adjustment it just rolls along instead. Changing a light, wiper blade or fuel filter are easy jobs and save you tons of downtime by doing it yourself.
I used to do alot of repairs, being a trainer it was helpful for the students to see. The problem is that as the trucks have aged, you sometimes can spend a couple of hours a day wrenching on junk equipment. The worst part of that, is you don't even get so much as a thank you from your fleet manager for doing it and keeping rolling. I know that you as the driver benefit just as much as they do, but it would be nice to hear that you are doing a good job.
