I heard from my dedicated customer that Roehl banged them for a few hundred bucks a pop quite often for detention. I never seen a cent and never put times on BOL

If this goes on at a company rated as one of the better companies , what does that say about this industry as a whole. I guess when the government is openly corrupt , companies will be too. And so will people . It is just a general decline in morals.

I also stopped putting times on the BOL when. I was there. One time they wanted me to claim detention at a customer that was first come first serve. I asked how is that? I didn't have an appt and had to wait my turn. I was there forever but I still didn't put down the times or send in the proper messages.

singulis coniurationis ad calumniam , Is what it amounts to when they do this to all their drivers across the board. Which is basically latin for conspiracy to defraud. But I am reading what some of the other companies do and this industry needs investigated on a national scale. This stuff is amazing that is going on. The detention thing is minor compared to what is going on out there, But it is still wrong.

So drivers admit that Roehl is stealing from them and yet they stay, I have never been denied detention since I switched companies over 3 years ago. If a driver stays at Roehl after learning they are being defrauded then that is on the driver not Roehl. Stupid is as stupid does.

I think a lot of them are afraid of what they will go through in changing companies. This kind of stuff is why certain factions in our countries leadership are able to promote class warfare. When People see what they can only perceive as the rich openly abusing their workers and the people in between helping the perceived rich facilitate this for a slightly larger paycheck then what they are receiving. It builds up in the working populations collective minds and it leads to the situation that we are seeing in the country right now in general. Which historically speaking will lead to a labor revolt. The companies who pay their workers well are the ones who prosper and those that don't will in the end suffer. With just a modest amount of research you can see examples of this in various industries. I hope this kind of stuff stops soon because economically speaking when you look at the big picture inflation is on the verge of going hyper and when it does the backlash of the labor class against the corporate class will be brutal.

I did leave. I waited for just the right opportunity and bailed out when it came along. So many companies abuse drivers through detention and in reality if everything else is good, that's not enough reason to quit.

I had a laundry list of reasons but wasn't willing to leave for leaving's sake.

The right spot came along and I couldn't be happier. OBTW, detention is not an issue where I am now. Yes, there are still places to go like that.

You have to pick your battles. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. Things aren't always better at other companies. Many drivers leave here and come back.

There isn't a hairs difference in the big companies that is true. If you like driving over the road look for a smaller company. I chose to go local so I was paid hourly and home every night. I think exposure is what will have to happen to change some of this petty theft that these companies are doing. Which when you get to the root of it , that is what it amounts too. Sad I would think companies would want to keep drivers and create loyal workers. But greed is a evil thing.

My lease is done at the end of Feb. after that I need to deal with the buyout. If I stay till the end of the year I will have something like 9 or 10 years in trucking which means I won't have to deal with baggage during the time between being a photographer and driver. Sometimes you stay because it's in your best interest in spite of the issues with a particular company. I will be attending the Midwest Truck Show in Peoria to gather information. I have decisions to make on where Blue Lemon Trucking goes from this point forward. It is irritating to know that while we get a $.10 a gallon discount Roehl gets much more. It is offensive to know they are getting paid detention and not passing it on to their drivers. It is insulting that they don't pay me if I take a hazmat load. All of these issues and more make it very easy to press for loads that go where I want to go and have the miles I'm looking for. Still any change has to be based on moving my business forward and not just a reaction to things I don't like.

Just a thought to consider and a philosophy I live by is that I always try to do right regardless of what others do. I put the times on the bills regardless of whether I will get detention or not. I realize as an owner/operator I have the option to choose my loads so I have a bit more authority then when I was a company driver, still I would do right and place coals of fire on their heads.
