    Hometime is one of the major reasons I left. In the year and a half I was there I failed to get home on time each and every time I needed to be. The job I have now is 5/2, and guess what? I'm home every Friday except for the one time the shipper's computer system crashed. I'll never go back.

    At Roehl you 11 days out ends up being anywhere from 7 to 14. But then you're supposed to be back to work on time. It's hypocritical, it's stupid, and it's guaranteed to make the safe, reliable, less expensive experienced drivers leave and give way to rookies with a higher chance of wrecking. Perfect formula if you want to lose money and go out of business.

    If you always need to be home on a certain date then most OTR company's will disappoint you. Not only that but most of them let drivers go home far more often then they used to. In the 90 when I started driving you stayed out 4-6 weeks at a time routinely and many had slip seating to try to keep you out even longer.

    The trucks are better the home time is better and the pay is worse and the drivers are softer. It costs money to have equipment off the road. When the economy was good the company's were forced to let drivers go home. Now that there are plenty of drivers willing to work for carp pay and put on the pads, they don't want the hassle of always having to get a driver home when they got people lined up willing to not have a life outside of driving.
