Ok, I know that this is a stupid question, but I'll post it out anyhow..

I'm a rookie, wet behind the ears, change of careers at 31 y/o due to corporate ########. Quitting the Nuclear Security profession after bein a supervisor for nearly 10 years, and gettin 18 wheels under me...

Enough of that, I've been off work now on vacation for 5 months and it's time to get to work. I've got the funds to pay for my own CDL school through a local CDL company, or can go through one of the company sponsored.

I've got 2 youngins' that I want to have hometime for, and have looked at many of the companies out there. To date, ROEHL and their school have seemed to have the best opportunities for training/home time/etc.

I have started off with SWIFT :biggrin_2552: and almost shipped down to their meathouse, but read enough to change my mind there. Then Werner :biggrin_2553: seemed like a good choice, then today met with Schneider :biggrin_25518:. Having 5 pre-hire letters isn't really helping the decision process, because I want to make sure I am making the right decision. I'm not seeing alot of negative press on ROEHL as of yet. Am hoping to get the real deal from some drivers who are out there and no more than I can find online.

Drivers of the other companies I listed, please take no insult to my choice to look elsewhere, it's about the hometime and opportunities I'm seein, nothin more nothin less.

I understand I'm just a rookie out here, but would love any advice. When I was at the Schneider "recruiting fair" I met a man who had trucked for 20 years, fighting to get back into the biz. The only advice he gave me was to go home and look for a different job, and that truckin will wipe the smile off your face in three years. I don't need a smile, I need to fulfill my obligations, and have a hell of a window scene doin it.
