Hmmm.. From the key word "salary" here, then you're probably right in your estimation. Which leads me to believe that you're currnetly in the "Honors Program" and so the rules are slightly different in your case. However, I do note that your hire date wasn't calculated on the date you entered RTDC but on your grad date.

For the ordinary Joe coming in off the street though, it's a bit different. True, you do get paid a daily pittance while out with a trainer and you have a company ID and all the bells and whistles. But until the road test is passed successfully and the new driver is out on the road solo, the hire is still provisional anyway you want to cut it. Also, your hire date is normally the same as the date you pass your road test.

As for true hire dates, there have been several ways the company has figured them in the past depending on where you start at, experienced or student, so I won't even try to get into that.

Bottom line, no-passee-da-road-testee, no jobee..

 

I do not have my cdl yet, I am in the RDTC started 3 days ago in Marshfield. What I want to know is if anyone knows, if you go through the classes are you usually offered a job if you pass everything? When do you take your cdl test through the state? I was with another training company and they had you take the cdl test after you went with a trainer for 5-8 weeks. Plus, they only took 1-2 out of the 7 in the class. Just don't want this to happen again. So far this company is alot better than the last. Any help on the RDTC whole course and hiring process.

Yes, you have an offer of a job with ROEHL on the table by the simple fact that you have been admitted to RDTC. Yes, you will get your CDL on completion of the school before you start EVO training. During EVO training, you are paid a daily wage vs mileage since you still in training status. Once you complete the EVO cycle, you road test and then you are on your own..

BTW, I have never heard of ROEHL turning any qualified candidates away other than for medical reasons that showed up during the orientation physicals. The fact that you're in RDTC already means, to me, that you've met all the other qualifications for hire.

It is weird that they use the day you start orientation as a hire date(My vacations come to me in Sept, but then have another date for safe driving and what not. I have yet to meet a student that is thrilled when i inform them they are technically not employees yet. Be nice if that was made clear to them from the word go. Course while someone is at it tell them about the hold back on training pay too. They are never pleased at that one either.

 

Question on the Evolutions, my husband has been gone with his trainer and will be back in 7-8 days, now will he have to go with another trainer to make it 10-13 days or if you do well cut it short? Is it always 10-13 days or can it be less? He is doing really good according to the trainer. He just can't wait to finish up and get on his own. Is it true that the Roehl trucks are single sleepers?

 

I hear so much of this and it is really quite silly in my opinion. Everybody wants to cut the training short. I will try to be be blunt about this. You paid for schooling to get your CDL. That is all you did, Passed a test. Now you are out with a driver who has had at least 6 months experince, but more then likely more than that.

So you have been told you are doing great, You think you are doing great, and you might be doing great. So what is the big deal about spending 20 days in a truck with 2 trainers. Of course by now you know all there is to know about trucking, You have of course figured it all out.

You will have plenty of time to learn on your own until then sit still, listen to your trainers, do what you are supposed to do. 20 days may seem like a long time but I think it should be closer to 6 months.

to answer the second question with a question, how many beds does one need to sleep in?

Not picking on you Don, but am pointing out how new drivers fail to exploit hidden oppurtunities of chances to learn something new the easy way rather then learning a lesson the hard way. Good luck

 

I was only wondering how long since the first trainer had me stay 7 days and was not told it was the end of evol I I was just curious and trying to figure how long it will be yet. As all in training, you can't wait to get into your own truck, I think all truckers have felt that way. I know down the road all the experience is good and you always learn. The reason I asked about single sleepers is for when I can take a rider along in 6 months or so like my wife. Thanks for your response.

 

Normally both EVO's are 10-13 days. When I was training, it was very rare that they were less than 10 days per. AS far as trucks, there are both single and double bunk configurations. What you get could be luck of the draw or you might be able to request a condo. Those normally are reserved for training though.

Hi to everyone. This is a first for me. "replying or any thing" on this sight. No stranger here. Been researching the transportation industry for some time and have used this sight extensively. This is a new career for me. Always wanted to do this. My previous life career was in management. (28Yrs) I chose Roehl. Is it the best for a newbie, sure from what I have researched, is it the worst, by far NO. For me I need to gain the knowledge of the trainers to gain the confidence to handle any circumstance on the road as a solo. To be able to go through decision making in a matter that results a solution to any situation. I've read about issues with the Disp,DSR... Life experience has taught me that an employee and Co. is a relationship. Good Communication skills and attitude goes along way. Relationships needs time to develop. Good and Bad come with the territory. Learning and maturing takes time. I'm looking forward to the challenges and developing in a new direction in my life. I've been notified from Roehl that they are ready to start me in orientation. I will start with a CDL-A w/endorsement. I will be notifying them next week of my intentions. It is going to be Fun!!! In my rookie opinion, Roehl offers many options, Hometime, F/B, Van, crtside etc... All important to me because I would want the change from time to time.
Anyhow; I have no questions. I seem to get them all answered reading through the threads. This Forum is GREAT. Wealth of Info on everything pertaining to Trucking. Sorry about ranting on here. I'll learn over time to shorten my replys, etc.
