This "food" thing is all about unrealistic expectations, I think. A trucking company is not a social welfare agency looking to give the unemployed poor a new start. They're about maximizing profit and figuring how to do that. They make decisions and we live with them. We have the choice to leave if we don't like them.

Few questions about Roehl, which I didn't find an answer to on their web site.

The CDL driving school & company training is free? I saw another company charged $3k for their in-house training (financable) with no reimbursement. So if Roehl offers it for free, surely they want to get their money's worth by making those drivers sign a contract. How long is their contract?

How long is the CDL school portion? It's always hard to go without a paycheck, so just wondering. (I'm also considering a part time local CDL school and financing the $5k) Roehl says you get $60/day for training, but I am assuming that is after the CDL school portion.

Is any of this right/wrong? Thanks.

    Jason, from the Roehl website...

At a cost of $2,800.00, you'll find RDTC tuition fees much lower than most other private truck driving schools. On top of that, the RDTC Admissions Department offers two payment options to cover the cost of tuition:

    Cash
Tuition Assistance Program: You may qualify for a loan from Roehl Transport, Inc. when you meet Roehl Transport's qualifications and standards.
Minimal out-of-pocket costs (students are responsible for registration fees, licensing fees and lodging expenses).
No tuition payment due as long as you are working for Roehl Transport.

No contracts and Roehl will "reimburse" you for the $2,800 as long as you work for Roehl. If you go somewhere else you are on the hook for $XX.XX based on how long you worked for them.

As far as the $60/day training, that is a little dated. Once you have a CDL and are accepted by Roehl (if you go to their school there shouldn't be any reason why not) you will go to orientation. Complete orientation and receive a hiring bonus of $600. Start training with a trainer and you get $90/day and it lasts up to 13 days. From there you are on your own.

Hopefully, that is all correct by my memory. :biggrin_25519:

Thetank, thank you, I guess I just didn't spend enough time navigating their website. True, $2.8k is a good deal, which is why I am considering Roehl. Even though their van starting rates are low around 28 cents to start, vs Crete, who pays 34 cents.

It appears to last 3 weeks, which is difficult to do without pay, but again, better than the 4 weeks of some other schools.

Does it say how much Roehl will reimburse you? $100 per month ot something along those lines?

They will finance the 2800. You will need living expense for 3 weeks. You will need around 400 up front for the hotel. Then more for license at end of 3 weeks. 3 weeks is length of school.
The magic number is 120000 if you finance. You can leave anytime, but to have your tuition paid up it is 120000 miles. Good luck if you choose.

They will credit you for half of the tuition at 60K miles and then prorate the other 60K 1/6 off at each 10K mile increment. Unless they lowered the pay since I left you will start at 0.30/mile for 3 months, then 0.32 for 6 months, then 0.33 for 3 months before going to 0.36 if you are in line with their idling and mileage goal requirements.

I have a couple of questions. Do they require you to have a hazmat endorsement? If you are a student how long until you are in a truck of your own? What is 7/3?7/4?7/7? Do they allow a dog in the truck? I am in Arkansas. I only have a week left of school and I am considering ROEHL. Thanks in advance for your answers.
