I have fuel out of route twice and they've never said anything to me about it. If they do, I've always documented the reason why. Both times, the routing they sent me had a construction detour that would have required me to back track and add significant miles to make their fuel stop. I'm sure in the long run, my decision is a wash on the money spent/saved.

The key issue is talking to someone before making a decision that'll cost them a few hundred dollars. Let them make the call. I've only had to resend mac 16 once due to being routed as though I was getting 9 mpg. It's all about the dispatcher in the end.

Like the dispatcher does anything, you call them up, tell them you missed your fuel stop. They run the program, remove any points you have already passed and a computer figures it out.

I fueled a couple weeks ago at the wrong TA there in gary when they shut down the 80 exit.

- I am new to this forum and have read many different comments made about Roehl. I have made an extensive search of most of the trucking comany's on line that offer company training for new drivers. I drove flatbeds for Anderson in St. Cloud, MN for a number of years, and kept my CDL and went on to other things. Anyhow, after checking these others out I found Roehls. Just like years ago truckers still BXXXX, about the companys they drive for, nothing changes. Things are what they are and if you want to drive you have to take the good with the bad. Now, I am waiting to start thier driving school after being away for a while and am excited. There are a lot of other companys out there that are bad, even by my standards and I am considered new. There are even fewer good ones. I've hooked my star onto Roehls.

The majority of trucks are columbias with APU's. The brand new trucks are now using an 8 battery system instead of the APU, though. There are still older trucks that are 9400i's or a handfull of columbias with no APU's, but they can be idled. There are idle standards that can effect bonus money, but I've found that the standards are reasonable. The type of truck depends on the fleet. There are some newer short nosed trucks, mostly in flatbed division, but not many. The Columbias have Det. Series 60 14 liter engines, not sure on the horsepower, but they are turned down a bit. The old 9400i's have Cummins ISX 15 liters, also turned down a bit. Within the last year or so, Rick Roehl bought a little bit of everything (except Petes) to try to figure out what would be the best truck to buy in bulk. But the KW's and Volvos went to experienced drivers. He went with Cascadias and Prostars for the new ones. Cascadias have DD15 engines, Prostars have cummins ISX 15 liters, or Maxxforce 13. All non-trainer trucks are mid roofs and the passenger seat is not air-ride. Standard equipment on all trucks is Webasto bunk heater, air bag dump, drive axle weight gauge, cruise, and almost all trucks have 10 speed Eatons. There are some 13 speeds but most of those got leased out. All trucks governed at 61 with cruise on, 63 with cruise off.
Flat bed trucks rule. Mostly Columbias with everything mentioned above, plus beacons(flashing orange lights), and custom made boxes and racks that are all made in-house.
If you are thinking about coming to Roehl, welcome and I hope you enjoy it. One thing to remember about Roehl is it's a family company. Everett Roehl started the company, and now his son Rick is the man. Both very nice people, and Rick is a million mile driver.Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -

I just finished my second day of phase one. Everything is just fine so far. Very nice hotel, company van to shuttle back and forth. Good food. All covered by Roehl.Only 3 newbies in this class so lot's of drive time. I had an instructor and truck to myself the whole day! That was nice. The terminal in Appleton is new and very clean and nice.
Glad I did my research and had no history to disqualify myself from working for them.
The members here provided a plethora of information and were significant in regards to who I went with. If working for Roehl is anything like the training I'll be one very
happy newbie. -
I had a slightly different experience with Roehl. This company bought out Wausau Carriers which I had driven with for 9 yrs. The pay was good but the dispatch sucked big time. They would never get me home on time. I tried a few different options with them and finally did 1wk on/off for a little while but it was the same thing on getting back. Sometimes I got home and sometimes I was a day late which I didn't care about but the other driver then was shorted a day for his week. I finally gave my notice after a 20 something girl in WI tried to give me a 800am delivery in the Bronx. I told her that wasn't going to happen due to the traffic and she told me that I didn't know how to drive a truck. When I turned in the lock I waited a few weeks for my $100 deposit to come back, yes they make you buy a lock with your own money and only give it back without interest when you leave, and then started calling. I spoke with the home office in WI and they wanted a copy of the turn-in sheet verifying I indeed turned in everything and the truck was fine. No prob, faxed them a sheet. Couple more weeks and called again and argued with the lady over there. She said they didn't get the equipment back in WI. I said so what, I had the terminal mgrs signature on the turn in sheet and what they did with the equip after I left was no business of mine. She refused to return my money so I called the next day and told her I was suing the company in court in my homestate of Vermont and naming her primary plaintiff and after I won I would cruise over to the terminal, get the serial numbers off a truck and trailer and place a lein on them until I got my money back. Good luck selling them or taking them into canada. I finally got MY money back in a week or so.
The money was good there and the miles were fine but this whole episode left me extremely sour on the company and I couldn't recommend them for this reason -
Oh, and i met Rick when they showed up to take over the company and I was not impressed. he acted like they were doing us a favor by buying the company and then letting us drive for them. I didn't say anything about it at the time but really wish I had just given my notice on the spot. I did give it almost 2yrs to work out but in the end quit
