When Roehl had the program, it was basically transferring your VA funds to the participant, in lieu of being paid by the mile. So, in essence, it was like being salaried. it was never "in addition to" and I would be stunned if TMC's program was different to such an extreme.

It's probably a similar program and another way to get cheap labor under the guise of helping vets. I've always understood they ran those guys really hard because they weren't being paid mileage and were being paid va funds. Essentially free labor. I might be wrong.

I talked after I read this post to a friend who works for the VA in Madison, WI. She happens to also be one of my former troops, so I trust what she tells me. Anyway, she told me that a large number of comapnies had their Apprenticeship Program participation cancelled for exactly the circumstances you describe. Basically offsetting the VA payments to an individual with a salary that might or might not equal what their contemporaries were being paid as an apprentice. She could not say that Roehl was one of those companies, but it seems reasonable to assume that they were. So, it seems likely that the VA cancelled Roehl, rather than the other way around.
I asked the TMC recruiter if they did this, and he asured me that they did not. They only verify that you still work there and are making sufficient progress. -
Water spots, and then the dust collects in the left over water. The next morning, it looked like you just moved the dirt around, and never cleaned it. Waiting in line, removing the antennas, and then not really getting clean. More work than it was worth.

Can anyone tell me anything about the VA program, or where to find more information? I like hiring vets, but I don't hire students or others without experience.

http://www.gibill.va.gov/resources/...grams/on_the_job_apprenticeship_training.html
There's a link there to direct you to your state agency to enroll in the program
Probably wouldn't work for you though, Mr. Pape, as an apprentice is by definition an inexperienced trainee. I wouldn't mind working for you, but I've been out of a truck since 9/11/01, so I've got to go get some "new" experience somewhere... -
Thank you for the link.

It a pretty sweet deal if you are a Vet , the way its supoosed to work is for the 1st year you are with a company you are supposed to get around $1100 from the VA, while still collecting a paycheck from the employer. I Plan on taking full advantage of this benefit. the only bad thing is that i will have to go work for one of the mega carriers

All truckers tales or haters spreading rumors. Yes the VA program pays you ontop of your mileage or percentage rate. As for getting fired for not cleaning the truck, thats false you loose points towards your pay raise and they pay to get it washed once a week. Everything is about image it impresses customers draws in more and gives drivers something to be proud of. You can get home every week end I did unless I chose to stay out. If you dont there is something wrong with you're fm not doing his job. Tmc really is a great company you can make good money have great hometime and be trained the right way.
