Been offered a job at Roehl - Flatbed --Western Regional- 5-6 out 1-2 home. I am about 250 miles from their newest terminal in Phoenix,AZ any feedback as to what kind and how much freight the skateboaders are moving in the Western Regional fleet?
Not sure if I will go with them or not I have 4 months OTR experience but they want me to go through the 3 day orientation, 2 day load securement (which is OK) BUT I am really not to excited to go drive with a trainer for 2 weeks, and then be evaluated? ( I have been solo OTR/LTL for 40,000 miles and thru 42 states. No accidents NO tickets etc.) I dunno maybe its company policy but mainly I just wanted to find out if their is any one (currently driving for them) with the skateboard freight info and availablility for Western regional --( i think it is a new fleet- the website doesnt list a Western Regional- flatbed fleet? This is a western 11 state regional - or so I am told by the recruiter. But I was fed alot of B.S. from the company I just quit. So I take recruiteres with a grain of salt.
Thanks in advance.

the orientation and mentor with a trainer is policy to ensure you understand and drive the Roehl way. That new fleet has picked up most of the Arrow freight out there and short on drivers and long on freight
-
Thanks .... the short on drivers long on freight makes me wonder if Roehl will hold up to what I have been told.-- 5/6 out and 1-2 home.
My last company I was suppose to be 3 weeks out n 3/4 days home but I was out for over 3 months ya 3 months before i was able to get back to Los Angeles. They kept me running as long as I was hundreds of miles from home,(except for the countless breakdowns) and denied any requests for hometime saying "there was to much freight and not enough drivers". -
Roehl has had ZERO surprises for me since I started working for them.....So, hopefully that helps ya out.
If you haven't noticed yet, there isn't many people that ##### about Roehl for a reason.EV87 and DesertNightRider Thank this. -
Don't know that much about the flatbed side/Phoenix side but I did see 4-5 flatbeds bypassing me eastbound out of Idaho and Oregon. I had a sense that we didn't haul to and from much west of Denver so was pleasantly surprised to see that many Roehl trucks along with a half dozen or so vans and one curtainside as well.

thanks for the posts. it appears to me that the western region seems to be "new ground" sorta. I have read older posts but eveything seems to be midwest and east nothing about western regional and even less about the phoenix terminal and flatbed freight. hopefully more will post info. OR i just take my chances - so to speak. I did read a post also that Roehl had bought 100-200 new flat beds?? and that they have some new KW 660's? Maybe they are getting to the upgrade point and will be getting rid of the columbia's and century that so many drivers are complaining about (my Columbia was broken more than it was running. Kinda sounds like Roehl business might be picking up and maybe a good time to get in?
-
yes they are getting new trailers and trucks.
-
If you do go Roehl there are plenty of flatbed loads heading out of Kingman. Nucor, Cantex, Laron, JM, Styro whatever, North American, etc etc etc. Good chance you will be able to stay close to home if you can convince your dispatcher its worth it.
southbaydad Thanks this. -
i was all nervous about the driver evaluation, it wasnt anything , i went around the block in marshfield, the teacher/evaluator chatted with me, i backed up in a decent size area, and did two truck stop pull throughs, i was so nervous i had to back up twice on both of those, i still got zero points deducted, because i didnt force it and backed up when i had to.
EV87 Thanks this. -
Hey Swen, hows it goin?
Sounds like a pretty easy evalutation. I am not worried about the evaluation, I was told my evaluation would be 2 weeks on the road with a trainer which I am not to crazy about. It's not evaluation part it s the driving with somwone else for 2 weeks part, the truck can get pretty small inside with two people, and not that it is really that big of a deal.
I am surprised that you being a student only had a "trip around the block" and some pullthroughs and you were done. And me having 40,000 miles otr under my belt and dozens upon dozens of backups ,docking, deliveries etc has to go on the road for two weeks with a trainer. But anyway I guess thats their policy. No biggie. Hope all is goin good for you.
