The reason I am coming back to the States: I am married to a Thai and we are working on getting US citizenship for her and she needs to be in the States a minimum of 18 months out of 36 and once that criteria has been met, she can apply for citizenship and then we will return. I enjoy living here, it is very peaceful. We live up in the north eastern part of Thailand, pretty much in the middle of the rice fields, about 40 miles away from the nearest city, and thats not even a big place to speak of, but we can get things there that we can't get in the village such as a decent cut of beef and other stuff.

You will not get those miles on a consistent basis.

Scatman..sneak up to where the dispatchers sit and listen.

Don't even sneak up, ask them point blank. Dispatch and recruiting are not on the same page. However numbers are run weekly, so ask your dispatcher what you can expect and more than likely you'll get a more correct number.

Sure. I drove for then two years and as far as starter companies go, great training company. Hard to beat 8 days with terminal trainers and then phase two with a trainer on the road followed by a training manager in phase three.

However 23-2600 is the industry average, which you will get at times. All counts on what lanes you run and what schedule. The average dm has 70-80 drivers and all they care about is moving frieght with the closest driver. True about most large companies. Not your paycheck. I ran everything they sent me and never complained, would just say I needed more miles. I did that till I found a company that I could be home everynight and make more money.

Take it for whats it worth, take advantage of the training, keep a good record so you can find something that suits you better. If big Red doesn't suit you.

Good point on the mileage. However I was referring to the respect thing. I've stood there and listened to what they really think.

Hmmm, well I would say you'd be taking everything out of context. The driver dispatcher relationship is difficult at best. I've always been of the opinion that you don't need to like someone to work with them. Oftentimes the drivers that I liked the least performed the best and therefore got the best miles. Liking someone and getting along with them well is less important than, in my opinion, performance.

If you honestly do that, you are one of the few. However it is not my intent to get into a pee-pee contest, I just presented what I personally know about the subject he brought up. And by the stats used, I was in the top five on my dm's board. And left on good terms and still refer new drivers to them.

I'm just stating that people will say things they don't mean. I know what it was like at Roehl and they had their fair share of complaining about drivers, but I also know what its like at other companies and I have seen much, much worse.

    ladr Thanks this.
