Roehls a great place to start. I loved it there. I work local now but will be going back over the road. Roehl never lied to me and they never messed with my pay, I was happy about that

 

I hold a current passport and is good until 2019. But in addition to that I applied for the Enhanced drivers license and that was a piece of cake, should get that in the mail in the next week or so. This Week I apply for my TWIC card...

 

I've heard of that. Please explain what's required to get the enhanced licence. Does it have all the function of a passport?

The Enhanced Driver's license is State issued, in my case New York State, not sure if all states issue them, but I'm sure most of the border states do as they are for crossing into and out of Canada and Mexico and some Caribbean locations. They do not replace a passport for traveling to other countries around the world though, but is is a lot easier to carry Enhanced License (sometimes called a passport card, opposed to a passport book). The cost was an additional $30.00 on top of the cost of the license, but the cost of a passport book is $135.00 ($110.00 + $25.00 for processing fees).

 

So who can tell me about roehl's orientation for an experienced driver? Do they require you to go team with a trainer for a week over the road?

 

To clarify, you can get a passport card, which is different than enhanced license. Go to US state department web page for passports and they will tell you the difference. Enhanced license is state issue, passport card is federal.

 

No trainer for experienced driver, pass their tests, get issued a truck, and off you go.

There is also a FAST card which is just for the US/Canadian border, it cost's $50.00. From what I read, it appears to have the same requirements as the Enhanced drivers license and Passport card, it takes about 6-8 week for processing.

 

Ok. So orientation for me as experienced hire last September in case it's changed. Get there, do physical strength tests, initial drive test, and drug tests. Classes, the next couple days, and a couple maneuvers test, backing and truck stop pull through. They have you do homework which is trip planning paper log stuff to make sure you know how to do it.
