Have my own dry van trailer, no truck. LMAO. Renting it out saving for a truck.

Got a job that pays more, which will hopefully speed up the truck fund process. I might lease to the company I now work for (reefer trailers). So, I'd either keep renting the trailer, or try and sell it for what I spent on it...

 

Well, we own our tractor and in the morning we may be buying the world's most unattractive trailer.

We're leased on with a tiny company, but still in the admiring-the-tractor-sitting-in-the-driveway phase of O/O-hood.

 

I have my own truck and trailer. I run under my own authority

 

Own truck and trailer, leased to tiny carrier/broker. Had own authority didn't want it and at time leasing on was best thing I did. Probably gonna get own again.

 

I'm curious why anyone would think they can sell their authority? You can't sell it. You can run under someones existing authority but you can't sell it.

If someone did sell the right to run under their authority you would end up paying everything the same as getting your own authority under your own name. If you have a bad driving record and think your going to skirt the normal process your wrong. Your still going to have to get approved by the insurance company.

On top of that. Anything the new driver did wrong would reflect on the true owners record. If any fees, fines or IFTA were not paid then the owner of the authority would be liable to pay.

I guess I'm confused about this what actual benefit either party would gain by doing this?

 

usually when people buy an authority from the previous holder is so that it'll show time. If you have had your authority for six years, and i just go to get mines, yours will be six years old and mine will be brand new. Now lets say there's a gig that pays big bucks, but the one catch is that my MC has to be two years old. Well my MC is brand new, has no time on it.. So i go ask you if you'd like to sell yours, since it's six years old.. You agree and i take it and the gig and start making big bucks.. Well that's usually why people do it anywaze.

Hi Gears. I ran under another O/O's Authority and found it to be to my liking. I had my own truck and trailer and simply didn't want to go thru the Authority hassle. It worked for me. Word of caution here. Talk to your Insurance company about it. When I bought my Pete I had a plan to lease it,found out after I bought the truck the guys insurance had a clause that he could only add trucks he owned. Surprise! Surprise! He didn't know it either!! If you add a truck and trailer the insurance will charge you so find out how much. The O/O I was leased to has two other guys leased to him and use his Authority and Insurance and pay him 10%. It's not a bad deal if the guys understand that you are not a dispatcher or a "money tree". Just be sure to dot the i's and cross the t's. Be safe out there! Rick
