Handles it just fine. 8K tags on the truck. 10K tags on the trailer. I won't buy a truck that requires more than 8K tags because there is no safety inspections that way. 10K or more and you need a safety inspection every 6 months, and there have been years I didn't fuel the truck that often. I run 10 ply tires to handle the weight, and with sway bars front & rear it isn't the least bit squirrely.

What leads you to believe he’s overloading his drive axle with his trailer? He’s got a tandem trailer axle so he can load it tail heavy.

    He’s right.

My 2017 Ram for example, it’s registered for 10k, but the axle ratings add up to somewhere north of 12k. By the registered weight I can put 2500 lbs in it, but I can tow about 16k and some change.

kinda sounds like he wants to haul material in a 20 yard rolloff and f250 which only works with a tandem axlle real rolloff truck. thats all im saying. Rolloff 20 yarder with f250, he will be restricted to mulch, trash or landscape brush. He will never be overloaded. Forget about maxing out a 20 yarder with dirt or stone

Just dont take concrete or dirt loads and you will be fine. A 20 yd full of asphalt shingles is 6 to 8 tons.
