If you need that to feel safe out here you shouldn't be out here in the first place...

Abs became mandatory for trucks on March 1, 1997, and trailers on March 1, 1998.

I have rollover protection with Love’s Rewards. Just one transaction a year guarantees the points rollover to the next year.
Fredterbert6666, Woodys, kemosabi49 and 3 others Thank this. -
ABS done right is a savior. Helps keeps my screwups from getting lethal.
If I had to think about what I had to do prior to ABS and what little I needed to do post ABS (Floor it (Service brake) and hold the line...) with a loaded big rig it worked out well.
Some of the posters did way better than any Government mandated add on. By stating that:
"I AM" whatever it needed to be done in the moment.
I don't mind a little miracle in a box but some of the things that the engineers dream of in their drunken slumbers at night while Govt Regulations burn to keep our misled law makers warm... is getting to be too much.
Turns I am into:
"I ain't" a truck driver. (Or a Professional Driver if you please) then what are we then? Well, I offer this. ...
"Ding Dongs" as a nod to the relatively new overspeed warnings cropping up ere and there.

It will derate the motor if you go around a corner to fast.. yeah, you usually have more stability when accelerating through a turn than coasting.
On a plus side, it can apply the brakes to only one "wheel" or side of the truck, it is isn't limited to applying all the brakes in an on-off fashion.
And, it's going to be a bit sensitive and "over react" to situations. The company that makes it needs to add in a margin of error so they don't get sued later on down the road. There is a buffer of safety for them.
I don't mind the stability control. Not impressed, but it isn't as asinine as the forward collision systems (CMS). That crap will jam on the brakes for a construction barrel sitting along a tight curve in the road. Then your butt will be praying the ABS system wont let you slide off the road (how about slick roads). They think the ABS system will keep you safe and in control and it's a "non-issue". Mmmm, ok....x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I was also recalling many orientations where they teach you yet again the difference between stab braking and squeeze braking.
Forget all that the ABS has what I coin a term "Gag braking." floor it and let it do what it has to do. =)skellr Thanks this.
