I haul fuel in AZ, which has a much lower cost of living. Been with my current company just over four months, and they started me at load pay, but we switched to hourly company wide. Starting pay is $25 plus an extra $1 for working weekends, with O/T after 40. My previous employer paid $23 with no O/T pay. Seems like the pay scale in Hawaii kind of sucks! One other coworker I talked to at the rack just moved to Vegas from there for that very reason.
My baby momma almost convinced me to move there back when we were together. She even bought a house on the big island, in Pahoa. After 2 trips over there, I knew it would never work. But anyway, got a bit off topic.
If you want to stay in Hawaii, and the pay is enough for you, great! Bio is pretty easy and among the safest of the fuels. Since it never gets cold there, no worries about it turning to gel on you. I don't know of any specific useful advice to offer, but would be happy to answer questions.
