No. Get hazmat endorsement anyway, because it's a good investment when a better job becomes available somewhere and you're already qualified. Even reefer drivers haul hazmat loads.
slow.rider, austinmike, meechyaboy and 3 others Thank this. -
The HM Exam is not Rocket science. As long as you can pass the Background Check, get the endorsement. My Company pays an extra .01cpm just for having it. I have turned 140K miles in the last 12 months. I have hauled exactly 1 HM load in that time. So........that load paid me an extra $1400.00! LolSandyEggo518 and Mr. EastCoast Thank this.

Note, if it is within the budget, consider applying for your TWIC card when you go to apply for the HazMat if you are going to be anywhere near a port.
tscottme, Mr. EastCoast and Northern Nomad Thank this. -
No but get tanker also if you don’t already... a lot of van companies haul totes of liquid. It doesn’t cost most much but it gives you every option possible... I’ve even got my doubles just in case I end end up going ltl/Linehaul.
Mr. EastCoast and austinmike Thank this. -
Don't leave out Passenger Endorsement. That's so Intelligent Life Forms can ride with you!
Seriously.... Hazmat is good to get. Pays off.
TWIC is much more than ports. Military bases. Refineries. It's a security clearance.tscottme, Speed_Drums, slow.rider and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you have your hazmat. An employer knows you don't have much of a criminal record, if any. It's a screening that you paid for.
slow.rider and Mr. EastCoast Thank this. -
Having your endorsements makes you more marketable as a driver, long term.
Hazmat, tan , double and triples..
Cheap to get, makes you money.
Better to have them and not need them, than have your dream opportunity pass by because you didn't have it and the other guy didslow.rider and Mr. EastCoast Thank this. -
The hazmat test is easier than the schooling might make it seem. There's practice tests online. Try a few and you'll see.

From what I remember most of the test was them trying to get you on how paper work should be laid out, and also where your paperwork should be while drive or away from the truck
Just remember ishp- Id number- shipping name- hazard class - packing group.... it was a big portion of the test.tscottme Thanks this.
