If my kids choose not to eat their dinner, they will go to bed hungry too.
I know, this is not what you mean, but there is a big difference between being hungry and starving.
If I were an irresponsible parent, spent my money on crack instead of food, my kids still wouldn't starve. They would eat atleast twice a day at school, and if they actually looked malnourished at school, they would be immediately removed from my home by social services where they would be fed. There are cases I guess where kids aren't in school and can't get food, but I was under the impression that the scenario we were discussing was about a man who was responsible enough to be deciding which way to go with his career.
I think, in the context of the recent conversation, that a man who is deciding which way to go with his career is responsible enough that his kids are not going to starve. Aside from the government assistance, there are churches, food banks, etc. I won't be convinced that any responsible parent is going to let a kid starve.

But the key word is responsible. A responsible parent would do whatever it takes to insure the well being of the family unit. Including kissing the husband goodbye, as they left on that hated "truck driving" job.
Neat how that ties right back into spousal support for the new truck driver, joining us to support his family by any means possible.
Instead of asking for a handout at his local church. -
Yes sir, I agree.
But if I felt that my wife was going to run off and take my kids with her. I would stay home and do something else. Even if that meant asking the church for a handout.
You make me feel so welcome in the forums, sir. Thankyou -
One only need to look at the recent uptick in divorce filings to realize this. Even CNN ran a piece on it. It truly seems...money does matter.
BTW...welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy your stay. We try our very best NOT to be PC. As there are not enough PVC pipes to pump the necessary sunshine up everyones ###. -

As an associated note, many others and I (all laid off or in construction) at our church were helped without asking, and I don't know what would have happened if they hadn't. I also never thought I'd see the day a food stamp could come into my house, but along with 20% of the population, it did, despite living on the computer and banging on doors, calling in favors as I desperately job hunted.
I would be one of those getting into trucking by necessity, only difference being that I like trucking and have a supportive wife, once she found out she could visit family while I'm gone. Had I not been run into the ground, I'd still be a trucker today.
BTW, there are some indicators of construction picking up just a little, so there's hope for you guys hauling materials, but it may be a while yet. I still think I'd rather haul them than install them. I'm sick of this industry and it's deceptive wages. -
It not always about the money,
If she feels the need to cheat on you SHE WILL !
If your wife has a reason in her mind to leave SHE WILL !
If your wife is so shallow and selfish and fails to understand what it takes to run OTR these days then "your life" is prolly best off without her.
It takes 100% Heart Felt dedication from both parties to hold a marriage together these days. The days for 60/40,80/20,70/30 are long gone.
Your both either 100% Invested,100% of the time or your marriage will not survive "PERIOD"
If your wife cant stand beside you and be totally committed to you
and your choice in supporting your family, she isn't worth a bullet.
Of coarse her side has yet to be heard . . . . . . if she isn't willing to suck it up and "Hold Down The Fort" while you run the miles she needs to check into her insecurity issues and get with the program.
I have wasted one 20 year marriage due to Trucking so I know
what the "Truth" is
<rant-off>Crusher Thanks this. -
