If you dont have a credit card, plan on keeping about $150 on you for a ticket home, keep it folded some where safe. Then again I forgot I had it and 6 months later found it.

I saw that happen at a toll booth in KY. The toll booth collecter was lucky, he stepped outside the booth and walked around the other side just in time, because the cow let loose with whiz and sprayed the toll booth and inside the toll booth. The bull hauler did the wise thing and just kept on trucking.

A WalmartMoneyCard is a great tool. Cheap ($3) and easy to deal with. You can even set it up for direct deposit with your company, as getting your money out is much easier than a comdata or other company card.cjwatson1972 Thanks this.

wait, u had co-drivers even after your 28 days of on the road training? I thought u went solo after that.

Companies these days want you to go 6 months before you run solo. Unless you have had recent driving of 4-5 months (busses or dump trucks are allowed for experience). This is a generalization for dealing with the mega carriers.
So it is 3 months with your first real trainer. Then it is 3 months with some one whom just finished their 6 months and want the easy life of big pay on a fleet lease (flease deal) that rookies dont know how to pay. Then you to can either go company (recommended) or go off the deep end and become another flease driver. At the end of the 6 months the company will ask you (under no obligation) to act as co driver to the others that are getting done with their 3 months. But that is up to you.
Personally? If you must get a truck while driving for a company? Drive with them for a year company. If you still like the company, hopefully you have saved either for a starter truck or you will have sufficient funds for a decent down payment. A starter truck is something with about 750,000 miles on the frame, yet has paper work of maintenance and has kept the engine upto date. Otherwise if you must get a newer truck I recommend you deal with some one that sells gliders like Fitzgerald.

I should add that I'm a rookie driver, but I have a decent amount of dispatching experience. I know how to make a dispatcher smile, so I think I have a bit of an advantage over other greenhorns.

You don't go solo at CRST...at least not when I was with them.
