A Few sets of earplugs really help out with a roommate that snore as well as when you are on a trainers truck. Lucky you are going to Fontana. Salt Lake and Texas put up to 8 people in a room. The Gary, In school uses some pretty disgusting hotels ( Hometown Lodge, right next door to the strip club you aren't supposed to go to. Pretty common to be walking in the parking lot and see used condoms laying around.) You seem to have a good attitude and could be one of 2 or 3 out of the group that shows up on day 1 to make it a year with them if that is your goal. Wen I went there I stayed away from people who were negative about being there. I got enough problems without listening to someone complaining about how it should be, or they do it like this over at...

@smokingboles.... For california, there were 3 tests we had to take to get out permits...its general knowledge, air brakes, and doubles and tankers, i think, if i remember correctly......i started on a monday.....dedicated the wek to studying, then went to take the tests at the dmv and passed, i got my permit, and then of course the walk around or pretrip, ur air leaks test, and road test....it took me a month to finish, but i did it, lol....honestly, not bragging or nothing, but i finished school earlier than some guys that were there already before i started. if u dedicate urself and are serious, u will do good. focus on the task at hand :)

@wanderingaimlessly...u got me laffing about the strip club and condoms lol.........so i will be sharing a room with 1 other person? ok....do u know if i will be with a female? can i request?

and true...that is what i plan to stay away from negative people, or complainers....although i go through that daily from some people that are around me, but i try to teach them different....i know its harder done than said, but happiness and positivity goes a long way...it has done me great my whole life. My mother died when i was 16 and boyfriend died when i was 26...I went through it for a while but u know what? i am still here, i still have to live, and i want a good life. :)

I dont get why people are there if they are going to complain...its like when people win the lotto and start ######## that they had to take taxes from the winnings, and i look at like, dam, if i win the lotto, its a win/win because i didnt have that money to begin with. people in everyday life, not just trucking need to start appreciating their lives a little bit more than complaining of how bad they have it. lol, dam that was a whole story, my bad lol :)

You will be put in with a female. The only time as far as I am aware that you wouldn't is if it was you husband.

Smokin the basic written tests you need are general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. Double triples and tanker are a bonus if you get them after that. Extra bonus for hazmat, getting your twic card ( for entering ports ) and having a passport. Do a google search for the CDL practice tests. Keep on taking them until you score 100 all the time. Once you get your permit then start focusing on memorizing and being able to identify the different items on the Pre trip.

On another note, it drives me absolutely crazy when I hear people say hey grab that tire thumper and check the tires. If you need a hammer to see that a tire is flat then you need to get your eyes checked. When you check tires you need to make sure they are properly inflated by using a tire gauge. I don't care if it is flat, I want to know if I am 20 psi down. Still haven't met one guy that could tell me the correct tire pressure by hitting it as they walk by.

I was accepted to RDTC with Roehl. I just passed my DOT physical and need to get my permit then I will be going to WI. I am pretty sure this is the breakdown of the training. 3 weeks of driving and classroom for phase I. After that I get to go home for @5 days then I go OTR with a trainer for 8-13 days to complete phase II. Once he says ok I have to go back to pass my CDL. Then it's home again for a few days. Phase III is @ 8-12 weeks solo but have a one on one supervision daily to help with anything etc. OTR all 48 to get miles. After that I pass phase III and then it's onto my regular feet. I chose reefer 7/7 but considering flatbed.

ok...now, also, i have read the forum where it lists items to bring to orientation...one of them was a sleeping bag....is this a better idea than just bringing sheets????

yes, i saw the practice tests they have on here too, was chicken and didnt start any of them till i studied a lil, lol....but i do have that in mind.

and are tire pressure a constant concern? of course, clearly, checking ur tires constantly is the smart thing to do, which i will do, but is this one of the major concerns in trucking? and how expensive is a new one? and do u recommend that treading thing they do to the tires? when i went to florida on a truck, we were driving through texas and on the freeway, a trucks tire blew out, right in the middle of the freeway, we were all flowing like 65, well we saw his tire blow up, but he kept going like nothing and the truck didnt even jerk, it kept going like as if nothing happened......is this normal?

I am very excited to be going with Roehl to start. I passed 2 of the 3 written tests today without opening the book again. I missed 1 to many on one test and about 6 on another. I plan to get all the written tests out of the way and should have my permit friday or monday.
