You are ahead of me mentally. Doing exactly the things I do myself. COOL.

The manual mode disabled is angering to me. That's BS. Arre you owner or not? Or do you have someone to call in the company with the power to configure the stupid manual setting in your computer settings?

I don't know then what to do. Too low causes whip sawing. Too high in low range makes it lug down nose down and then select god knows what gear making you wait to spin down and engage.

Your company is hurting you imagining that they are all wise knowing how to flip software settings to NO on anything worth a #### with that over technical pile of ####. (No offense PLEASE. I understand you might have grown attached to it, in spite of all.)

That very well could be it. "Hey I've been out here a year and some change and I haven't ####ed anything up, I'm pretty good at this." Then BAM.....accident in a parking lot, which 9 times out of 10 is usually backing into someone. Reminds me motorcycle riders. I've seen the same thing happen with people I've ridden around and hell I've been guilty of it in the past as well when I was younger. Guys will buy a bike, start out cautious and before you know it, they're zippin around like a wild-man and inevitably go down. Why? Because they got TOO comfortable and lost respect for the machine. It's the same thing.

Getting comfortable is good, it means you're acquiring new skills and expanding on the ones you already have, but the second you lose the respect for your machine, whatever it may be, that's when accidents happen. It's always wise to keep a little fear in the back of your mind, just a smidge. It doesn't mean you're scared, it just keeps you aware. (That flowed well.)

No offense taken. The company bought 3 of these trucks, and they've never had any of these automatics in their fleet before, so it's a learning experience for both of us. The other trucks they bought were all manuals. They ordered a bunch of new trucks for us to replace some of our older aging models, but our order got delayed due to the high volume of trucks being purchased by megas right now, so in desperation, they went to a dealership and bought 3 right off the lot, all 3 were automatics. All 3 drivers that got them were all "old schoolers" that had never driven them, so we are all learning here. I'm confident I will be able to get them to change the settings. If not, I will get them to put me in one of the new manuals when they come in...lol.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best & when all else fails....improvise!

I drive on fear with a 18 wheeler. I have a prey mentality. Kinda. Split personality is more like it. Let me explain.

When I get that sense that you described well, that the world is right, going my way and a sense of ... being a Lord in the Manor with the serfs taking care of the chores for me.

I get a certain mind thinking that I am superior to the world. Then I float through the day misguided in my own delusion.

Something ALWAYS HAPPENS with that 18 wheeler or personal car or something. BOOOOM. REALITY. Smash a pole because your eyes are so blind in it's consumption of pleasures pending on date night tonight that you never saw your own trailer crush a pole. That's where the BOOM came from, you shorted out a town.

Get to paying for it. Poles run 5000 installed. Then whoever dies while the juice is out is literally your fault. Theoretically they can haul you into court for it. Not to mention the damage to your trailer.

Talk to your fellow employees. Explain to them this post you wrote.

Then meet with your bosses on safety meeting and explain nicely that you all understand their sitaution as a company and wish to work with them in setting the autos to allow manual mode. Surely this fabulous company learning with you employees have a unique oppertunity to build a perfect auto software settings one at a time.

Once word gets out to new hires happy with their new autos 4 through 10, then 100 and so on in time... more people will want to run for your company. Because they know what they dare doing, guided by your needs demonstated right there in the truck lot near the shop building. The bossman can ride in a few minutes in your Pax seat and see for himself why the slow speed is unsafe and not PRECISE as you would like due to settings.

Im a little off right now because I had to smack down TV who chomped on my ankle in his millennial hormonal anger... So I have to be careful what I write until tomorrow.

Reality has a way of sobering us up from our dreamy delusional stupor. Thanks for all your input @x1Heavy. I appreciate your two cents;)
