I'm adding a room AC to the truck this weekend and was wondering if some of you guys that already have the redneck APU might be able to assist me with the best way to make the window support for the unit. My truck is a 16 cascadia. I appreciate any input.

Why do that? Get a floor cooler and vent the heat out the pax window using a divider and hole for the duct out. Hook cooler to the inverter big enough to feed it and go to bed.
Rideandrepair and Intothesunset Thank this. -
Thank you for the reply x1. I was going that way or a split system unit but got a great deal on a 9000btu window unit from Lowes, only $95.Rideandrepair, Intothesunset and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Whew starting that big hog is going to be awesome.
How many watts are you fixing... er forget watts. How bout them amps... -
I have a 3500 predator generator/inverter to power it. 3500 Watt Super Quiet Inverter GeneratorIntothesunset and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Thats not a bad unit.
I had a Generac 8500 which could max out at 12500 to crank the house if need be. Put 65 some odd hours on it.Intothesunset and ken052376 Thank this. -
First things first, remove the spark plug from that thing and replace it with an NGK BPR6ES.
Then, remove the charcoal canister and chuck it in the trash. The hose that goes to the air filter can be folded in half and zip tied shut.
Drill a half inch hole through the middle of the "3" in 3500 and stick the other hose that vents the fuel tank through it. Then use a vacumn fitting that goes from 3/16 to 1/8 in the end of it to help keep water and dirt out.
If you don't do this, the first time you overfill the gas tank, it will flood that canister and cause it to black smoke and run like crap.
Then you're going to want to install an exhaust pipe so you don't kill yourself or your neighbors.
Remove the plastic panel off the exhaust side along with the spark arrestor. Connect an Espar heater pipe, available at any Thermo King dealer. Connect that to a length of 3/4" steel conduit and run it right alongside your exhaust stack. Use hose clamps to attach it and Permatex Ultra Copper to seal the connections.
As for your choice of AC... 9000 BTU is probably going to be barely adequate. I'd just make a little platform from 1/2 wood that fits tight to the glass. Make gussets on the heavy side.
If it's your truck, I'd really go with a 12,000 BTU Senville Leto mini split. That's what I have on mine... search my other posts. I think you'll be a lot happier not having to lug a window unit in and out at night.Last edited: Jul 5, 2019
harold6091, Rideandrepair, stwik and 3 others Thank this. -
Harbor freight generator and stand up AC unit installation.
Here's my thread on it. The 5000 btu unit I have can keep the tractor cold once I chill it with the truck AC. At night it's fine in Houston. The sun....... The small predator doesn't make it past 7.5 hours.
I don't have a lot of space with the hoses I carry, so I have the small one.Last edited: Jul 6, 2019
Rideandrepair and lilillill Thank this. -
My advice take portable unit, windows one is so noise, had it before. Now 12500BTU this one. Best of the best with my Honda EU2000 in toolbox under my trailer far away from the cab. No noise no exhaust fume. it takes 2 year to find right setup.
