Stay north. Take 20 through Louisiana and into Mississippi and take US 49 and US 98 from Jackson, MS to Mobile, AL. Get on I-10 in Mobile and go into FL from there. That will keep you away from the coast in LA where tropical storms would be worse instead of taking I-49 down through Lafayette, LA to I-10 and going right along the coast.
Route next week into FL

I personally am a fan of the myradar app. All the information on the app is pretty basic, but it has highlighted boxes for every single warning put out by the National Weather Service. It seems update in real-time because the warnings appear on the app before they come over the weather band on the radio. You can turn it on to show wind, but it takes some time to get used to reading it before you understand how the wind is going to be at a certain location.
There is another app directly from Noaa with a lot more information you can get, but I'm pretty sure you have to be a certified spotter to download it. They gave me a download code for that app the day they gave me the certificate. -
I use a free weather from NOAA app. Gives me all the information I have ever wanted.
