Does your company provide driving directions?

When I was OTR I compared the company directions to what the rand gps suggested, they were almost always exactly the same. I then checked the rand atlas to see if those were logical, subject to construction, traffic per time of the day, weather for the seasons etc. Then made my own decision to follow or not.

Use the GPS to tell you where the roads are, not what roads to take.

I 68. Absolutely avoid those steep grades unless you are empty. I tried to avoid Pa Turnpike I76 $130 toll and regretted it

I'm not from the US but am in the trucking industry.
Earlier this year I took a vacation in the US.
After a week in NY and DC we hired a SUV and did a road trip down to Florida.
We weaved back and forth N&S Carolina,Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia in to Florida.
We did the tourist stops (including a truck stop in Roanoke) but on purpose used a standard GPS to route us to point we just picked on the map.
What a great Idea that was , saw some beautiful places that appear in no tourist guide book.
In a truck however that would be a nightmare in the extreme.
I would just stick to main roads.

you went through the Dragon, the Snake, and the Skyway. The Dragon has so many hairpins in it that your power steering fluid will overheat. Beautiful country though.

Ha ha funny your name is Sherlock. Anyway, that road is miserable in a car in the winter let alone a rig. I remember years ago hearing about a 60 or 70 car pile up out there when I lived near Boulder. Hate that hwy in the winter.
