LOL--another one of those questions where there are a thousand answers--so most folks do whatever they are comfortable with--and you are no less likely to get hung up on some massive BS on the pa greenstamp then you are up on 80...and IMHO where the OPs thinking is crucially flawed is the tolls--and I do not care,,,whose $$ it is or ez pass or whatever...all I hear from so many drivers is:the problem is pay--we do not make enuff--not compensated for this and that...yet so many feel it is ONLY the companies problem or greed or whatever...but look at it realistically--it doesnt matter HOW many trucks a company has--if every truck they have this wknd--has 1000 mile trip--and each one runs 100 miles out of route--and pays 200dollars in UNESSASARY TOLLS---well do the math---probably why so many companies have restricted toll roads......
And Fat--there jus aint no good way to go from Carlisle to Elkton--most folks throw up there hands and run down thru Baltimore and up--but again miles and tolls keep me from doin it...so jus be glad it wasnt a summer wknd--when half of central pa heads for the shore--on a fri eve in July..its about a week from the east side of lancaster just to 41--then the rest of the wknd to get down 41 into del--LMAO
And Pete--322 is good road--cept for the silly antiquated speed limit on 7mountains--and if you ever get out this way again--Ill take you MY way down from 80 onto 81 or 78---lets just say it is a good thing(for you)that when you called me lookin for a shortcut from Avondale to Orefield--I missed the original call and you followed your GPS up Rt 1 and the tpke--cuz Im sure if you followed my route--you'd still be cussin me....:)

I appreciate everyone's opinion. I think I'll just run 80. If it's bad, I'll stop. Got all day Monday to deliver...
!.... just a side note. My remark might have seemed flippant, but I don't run toll roads unnecessarily. If 76 was hands down the better way, tolls wouldn't have been the deal breaker. I didn't want my decision which way to run to be decided by tolls but what road was better in winter weather. My company puts the IPass in the truck for a reason. We run a lot of toll roads. But I don't go out of my way to run extra miles on the tolls. Some places they are unavoidable. Like running through Chicago.

I used to pick up at the Mehoopany PA. (P&G) It was always a roll of the dice in the winter. The load might be heading west from there, but I would make my way back to 81 and take the long way around just to be sure I would encounter good roads. I had a couple of good scares cutting through the woods over to Wilkes Barre, and once over to Williamsport driving on icy roads. Driving over my head.

Had a good day. When I start stressing, I break my day down into segments. First segment I delivered in Denver, Pa. No use worrying about the snow, cause that would be another segment. I drove to Elizabeth NJ. Got my preload at hit the road. Right as I was getting hooked up the snow started. Was coming down good.i went 78w to 24 w to 287 n to 80w. Roads were pretty good. Some slopes were better than others. I made it to Milton Pa and it was starting to get dark. So I pulled into the J, fueled up, scaled the load and parked for the night.
Mi went in to shower and eat. When I came out it had snowed another 2 inches.... Drivers are pulling in and calling it a night. I'll get a good night sleep and get back at it in the AM.....
    thanks for the advice!!
