Looks like the 18 speed im buying has a .73 final ratio. And im also going to still change my rears out to 3.36. I run a very dedicated route and is 95% flat land and i only have 2 short hills to pull so they will fit my need.
-
The 3:36 rears will work well with the 18 speed. I have a set in the 379 I just bought. 3406, a 15 over and tall rubber. It is a beast. The 18 should improve upon that

I will still be on lp rubber and 22.5's for time being. Once my rear tires wear out ill be going to tall 22.5 to help make up some of the difference top end wise. Unless im happy with the lp rubber and 3.36 gear combo just will have to run her and see.

Id save your money on the rear end swap until you ran it for awhile. The older engines can rev a little and still get good fuel mileage.

Right now im turning 1650 at 70 mph and still averaging mid 7's on my truck. Shes not afraid of some rpm.

AModelCat Thanks this.

I was speaking more to the "experts" who deemed the swap a downgrade more than anything. i changed mine to match my cruise rpm with the Province of Onterribles stupid speed limiter. true, i ended up with a slower truck, but i hit 105kph at 1525rpm instead of 1325. My Cat will pull the load running there. i run at 137,500lbs gvw. i gained .75mpg avg with the swap the experts told me was a bad idea.
