The closing of an Eau Claire trucking business will leave about 63 workers without jobs within two months.
Ruan Logistics Corp. will close its Eau Claire location, 2710 Arbor Court, effective April 1. Among those laid off will be 52 drivers.
In a letter to state officials dated Jan. 25, the company said the closure was "necessitated by a slowdown in business" and that the facility will be closing permanently.
Ruan Logistics' parent company, Ruan Transport, is a trucking firm based in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2004, Ruan bought Eau Claire-based Arbor Freight Service, which at the time employed 90 people and provided nationwide trucking service. Arbor Freight had been owned and operated for 30 years by Richard H. Jonas, who died earlier in 2004.
