Its wrong when they try and over take and end up taking 20 miles to get passed the truck in front of them, in other words pass only when its safe to do so in a fast efficient manner.
Rules of passing?

Just the other day I came up on a truck that was at 63 mph... I'm governed at 65... It was a 2 lane with a very long straight away... I wanted to pass but kept backing out of it because I didn't want a 4 wheeler to come around that bend some miles ahead and end up either looking like an idiot or forcing the slower driver to slow down even more to let me over... Next thing I know the slower driver flashed his tail lights at me and slowed down to let me pass... Even though I had backed off a good distance and matched his speed. I try to make it a practice to back out of it and let other not so fast drivers by if I notice they are struggling to pass me in a timely manner... But I guess it had never occurred to me to signal a driver to pass and back out of it before he ever grabs the hammer lane. I learned something new that day... And will try to incorporate it into my daily driving when the situation calls for it.
Gearjammin' Penguin, Goodysnap and x1Heavy Thank this. -
My truck runs 70 and I have trucks passing me that are going 71...
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Safe is a relative term, fast and efficient is possible downgrade. he he he. Long ago, governors were defeated by nuetral and a steep enough, long enough downgrade. I know I spent almost two years typing about being the slowest safe truck up and over and down the mountain, but there is time to be made up on certain ones. (The ones with a straight run out at the bottom, no curves)

Today I was on a two lane with a walmart truck behind me. I look in my mirror and see it driving on the shoulder with no hazards. Then I saw a 70+ truck drive past him in the normal lane. I did the same thing for him and watched him ride into the sunset. I know it's rare to get a wide enough shoulder on a two lane but it seems like the right thing to do.

Long ago there were crates with wheels on them. Mooing. There were painted on these crates a word. "Monfort" They sometimes put a light bulb on there so that the english challenged among us could read that word 3 miles back.
He be coming on far to the left at past a dollar in speed. With a little luck your company Kitty cat is on the far right.
Sometimes it leaves a awful lot of #### behind. I hope your kitty cat has the meow to keep up when it's time to roll.
Those days are gone forever. I think. Perhaps somewhere in the western range might still roll a crate that moos...tucker and DirtyhandsMcgee Thank this. -
Just looked a thread on Monfort, sounds like the good ole days were a lot different. This worlds going to ####. What were those circus trucks everyone was typin about on the monfort thread?

I have My truck governed at 74 but run at 62 to 68 depending on how much of a hurry I'm in and will back off a mile or 3 to avoid passing .
The rest is saved for boneheads in slow trucks that think they have a fast truck . -
It was a habit of mine to drop 3 mph off my 63 and give the man with the horse a hand up getting by. I wont slow too much, so "Come on... let's go..." and we will see how this goes.
But not too often. And never with a string of trucks to the rear. Its too much.
