I've actually thought about this quite a bit in the last week or so, because given what else I've seen of Roehl (overwhelmingly positive -- the recruiter has been helpful and sincere, not evasive in any way) it did seem rather odd. It occurred to me though, that there are probably studies that show a correlation between number of miles driven and some aspect of safety -- for example driving enough miles to maintain your skills at the highest level. They might also want to keep a balance between, for example, someone with 100% ontime etc. but drove very few miles in a quarter vs. someone 100% ontime but did that while also driving a lot of miles.
Just seems like they must have some good reason for it, as they seem like a fairly conscientious company.

They figured out a way to make more profit for the company. The more a truck rolls, the more profitable it is for the company. It has nothing to do with safety. It has everything to do with the driver running hard and not going home as often. The new pay program is one of the reasons I left! I was maxed out on the pay scale and now with the new pay program I would have to run a lot harder to keep my CPM the same. That means not seeing the family nearly as often. I'm not taking a pay cut if I am doing nothing different than I always have. I don't wreck trucks. I'm always on time. I get along with my FM. So, I left Roehl and they lost an experienced, safe, dependable driver. Screw with my pay or family time, and that's the limit of my tolerance.classic_150, dorset and bucksandducks Thank this.

It is also important to note that you have to have TWO down quarters in a row before your pay is effected, so I would hope if your FM is not giving you the mileage you need you could get it taken care of before 6 months have elapsed

Roehl has always had a reputation for weak miles, I know that when I was on 7/4-7/3 I only had enough miles to make the bonus once in two years. Even now as an owner/operator I pay for my plates almost every month since I never get enough miles to make their limit for paying even for partial reimbursement. There are always a few favorite drivers who will get the miles, but these are few and far between. Most of these companies including Roehl suffer from the delusional fantasy that they are great places to work and any driver who would leave is just one less problem to deal with. In theory performance based pay is a good way to reward your best performers. The problem comes when you use factors such as miles that are out of the driver's control.
