California. Will they be lenient by a couple holes and 200 or so pounds over?
    :laughing-guffaw:
Why would you run with a kingpin violation into CA? $500 - $1000 ticket. Oh, and the cost to get the load off the trailer to make it legal, at the coop. They would let the 200 overweight slide but kingpin and length really pisses 'em off.

200 over, long as you're under gross, I never had a problem. Over one hole (IF they catch it) you ain't moving. If you have pre-pass, usually you're getting a green and you don't have to pull in. However some scales, Cottonwood on the 5, Gilroy on the 101, the 880 in Fremont almost always pull you in. It's a crapshoot.

California will let you slide a few hundred pounds as long as kp is good.

They would rather see you overweight than over kp. Ask me how I know...No wait....Don't ask.

Where are you going to in California and where are you coming from?

Two weeks ago I ran a load in the was 36k on the tandems when at the 40' mark. Gross was only 76K and it was an LTL load so loaded by stop.

You have to decide what to do yourself. I was coming out of MN and going to the LA area, so I ran with it.

I made it legal in every other State and ran to Vegas, then turned south on 95 to 40 and in that way. I stopped in Searchlight NV and slid the axles to 40'.. No scales, the SB Hesperia coop burned down. I was legal after the first delivery.

You have to decide if it's worth the risk.

Beverage companies can be notorious for overloading the trailer axles. Part of the problem, at least at that water plant in Cabazon, CA is they have all those split axle vans in the yard. When you pull back in and ask to have the load reworked they start with the, "We load like this all the time, don't know why you have a problem"...

...that's when you explain the difference between split axles and tandems.

You did the right thing. If they won't rework the load, then refuse the load.

An overweight ticket is not going to put my CDL in jeopardy.

It was a 2400 mile load, for all but 200 I was legal.

They reworked it and I collected 7 hours of detention in the process. Load doesn't deliver until 3/22 anyway, 1000 miles away. Gonna run it to Jarupa and tcall this ####
