What does a frac spread have to do with a diesel engine?

What a fool. Instead of making a video he should have killed the motor. And I know it was said in the forum that the cops said her could not go near it. Well first cops better put me in cuffs cause I am going to do what I can. Second the cops where not there when the motor ran away at the start. which is where he the driver needed to be doing something instead of getting his phone setup to record it blowing up. a quick cut throw the air to air line and a shirt mud flap slip board or so many other things and it would have shut the motor off....shows he was more worried about being youtube number 1 watched video

Based on his video... I don't think it shows or is indicative he was more concerned with making a video. Granted I wouldn't have even thought of doing that. It does appear that he didn't know what to do when this happens. Perhaps he was shooting video to have some evidence of what happened. You know when the boss tries to fault him for destroying the engine. He has proof that the dang thing just refused to shut off. That energizer bunny must have got sucked up into it, and just kept going and going and... :biggrin_25525:

If he knew what could be done, then when the cops were telling him he couldn't get close to it, he would or could have told them that he was going to shut it down, stop it. I'm sure they would have allowed it. Again if he really knew what to do, he would have shut it down right after stopping or stalled it to a stop.

I'm not much of a mechanic, and would be at a loss on what to do, IF I had not read quite some ago about runaway diesel engines. Not everyone will research or read informational things. Is this taught in CDL mills? How many trainers inform students about things like this? Heck I ask why or what causes things, to our mechanics or other drivers. Most of the time the mechanics just say "driver error", and leave it at that. Other drivers reply with the "stuff happens". There are a few, very few, that will try to provide information. So I guess most drivers are born with all this knowledge and never been told, or taught.

Why do you think the cops would not allow the driver to get close to the truck? Maybe they thought the thing was going to explode at any time. Lack of knowledge, they're cops not mechanics. If they knew what was happening and how to stop it, don't you think they would have told the driver to do that or maybe even done it themselves? Having been a LEO, if I had the knowledge of what to do, I'd have told him to get off the phone and shut it down!! OR, give me your phone, I'll shoot the video of YOU stopping the thing so you can show your boss how you saved his engine, get your butt over there and stop it!!

Yeah, there are a ton of things I DON'T know about engines. I had a "project car" in the past, but when the restoration got over my head (and budget) I decided I didn't want to open the hood for anything anymore. Still in my fleet *I*'m the fixit guy. Which is pretty sad. Judging by the quality of driver the mills are putting out, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of guys wouldn't know how to handle this.

Now see, I hadn't thought of that. My thought would have been to try to cut off the fuel line somehow. Never considered the lubricant becomming fuel.

I have to agree with an earlier poster,,, dropping the clutch at top gear? Might have blown the clutch but saved the engine? Idunno.

I am not sure I would be able to think enough to figured out to stall the engine. I just know I would be like WTF is going on and freaking out. With my luck that will happen my first solo trip... At least I know now what to do.
