Just take your time going down Donner's. Let the engine brake do the work and stay off your services brakes till you need them. Gain 5mph then brake for 5mph. That's what I did on my few trips over and back. If your at the right speed and your engine brake is strong you shouldn't gain much speed really.

Let's see... Jersey 80. NYC. GWB I think. Maybe 78 to 80... anyway... winding. TRAFFIC.
Getting into PA on 80 is a winding hassle two laner for 50 miles. Then get past 81 jct and keep moving. You WILL HIT MILESBURG upgrade. that's 10 miles up. You will have to drop down a ridge to get to it. Stick to the speed limit at the bottom of that #### thing.
When past and enter state college welcome to the mountains.
Ohio. You like tolls? Pay it. Ride easy until Gary In.
The plains states.. you will find out what fly over means. Bring some bug fluid.
When you get into the area of wyoming, check not only the winds. Winter weather, also check your papers for POE and also check weather in the entire NW of the USA. Learn to use those chains today before you drive west. I dont want you being stupid trying to learn chains on WY with a herd of truckers waiting on you.
Salt Lake city. You can stay on 80 and fall off two major mountains directly downtown right into traffic and the great salt desert waiting for you just past SL.
Or you can run to Odgen and come south to SLC and head into the great salt lake on 80.
What is next is Nevada. Series of long mountain grades nothing particulary noteworthy unless you like spending your pay in casinos (Dont.)
Reno will present you a problem. Be cautions east of there in the valley. Thru reno... stop and check DONNER. ALWAYS. STOP there and Check Donner. DO NOT FREAKING MOVE until Donner is open and no chain.
44 miles of downgrade university. About 15 miles down there is a left curve at 35 for trucks. YOU DO 30 or roughly for that or it will flip you into the forest.
The rest of it is california. It's soon to become a different Nation if they want their way I cannot help you there anymore.scottlav46, Jubal3 and Boattlebot Thank this. -
