That one and the station north of Vegas are both about 50/50 chances of being open on weekdays during bankers hours and when the weather is good.

Not many options before the Sacramento 49'r. There is a tiny place west of the summit but a lot depends on what time we're talking about. Check you favorite truck stop finder app. Where are you going again and what time is your unload appointment?

Weather/roads tonight is not going to be an issue, so staging in Reno or Fernly is not unreasonable option and in many cases is the ONLY option for a Sacramento area destination from the east

I use to run i80 sacramento to Denver twice a week for 4 years.. you can imagine there isn't anything I haven't seen out there between Donner and Wyoming lol. With that being said. I wouldn't worry about it. I have crossed Wyoming at 60mph+ gusts with 5k in the box. Just drove slow and when I was heavy that was never an issue.i still run i80 to Chicago now but the high wind advisory has never been an issue with common sense used. Same with Donner. Donner isn't scary at all it's the rookies that have bad experiences that tell stories and make it look bad. Start a lower gear and don't stress it. But remember when you get to the break check make sure you stop it's a 750 dollar mistake lol. Other than that chains are easy to put on just carry some bungies so they hold the chains in tight.

At the end what I'm trying to say is. Drive withn your comfort zone. I love winter driving. Everybody has their preferences

Hate to break it to you bud but from Wyoming west to California is an underwear changing experience especially in the bad weather. Keep the coffee hot and the shiny side up driver!!!! Lmao!!!
