Sadly that is what this business has turned into
Better then 80% of this new generation of steering wheel holders are some of the most fortitude deficient, maturity challenged humans the world has ever seen.
There is a true "Old School" crew still out here that hasnt been "diluted",we know our kind and steer well clear of the other "kind".
Until you live it,you can only imagine . . . . .

These are just facts of life when hauling cars,........I always slept at the auction after loading,...So if it took 4 hours to find and load a 9 car load,...I showed maybe an hour and a half for loading,..which would leave 8.5 for the 10 hour break,.....
You should get much faster at loading and unloading as you get more experience with it,...Don't rush when starting out,..You'll just wreck stuff and that can get expensive,....photolurp2 Thanks this. -
Very little is legal when hauling cars,...You will find your self long, tall, and heavy more often than not,........Time is money,...use your time correctly and you will make money,...
And for the record I no longer haul cars,................. -
Best thing for you to do, find another job. I won't even bother with the details as to why. Others have done that for me.
End of story........ -
True...
You get these people talking about how they want respect from their carriers, but then you see people admonishing a driver to set up a small carrier with the DOT. I dont haul cars, but it sounds like a good gig to me, ESPECIALLY if he's paying real money.
Perfect safety record+old trucks means the guy has nice equipment that he keeps maintained. Everyone else has a dispatcher and a safetyman, he has the owners cell number on speed dial.
Want respect? Man up and talk to the boss man face to face. Dont want to run hard? Go get one of those cushy doorslammer jobs where you sit in the truckstop for 3 days a week and can always be the first one in line for the buffet and talk tough all night with all the rest of those watered-down wannabe-a-real-trucker truckdrivers.FriedTater Thanks this. -
Thanks, Walleye, I guess I am not the only one doing this, and I will have to adjust. The pay could be anywhere from from very little to decent, with an average of around $600 a week if I am lucky. A couple of things I forgot to mention. The AC only works sometimes, and the truck does not have cruise control, loaded it will not do 55 up some hills in GA and FL, where we go. And before you guys call me a ######## for those reasons, here is the biggest problem: NO SLEEPER! That is right, the truck has no sleeper, so you try and stretch out in the back seat of a car, many of which don't have enough gas to run the AC. I cannot even stretch out fully. But here is the good news: he is selling this truck, so hopefully I will be driving the "new" truck: a 2000 Volvo. It has a sleeper, AC and cruise control. For those reasons, I should be alot happier, and get some quality rest. I am like alot of other folks, just letting off a little steam. I would never get my boss in trouble with DOT on purpose. Not only becase that is not right, but also because it would be my ### also.

You will get faster in time,..It takes lots of time to be good at hauling cars,...And your right,....A sleeper truck would make life much easier,....If I was running otr in a day cab the boss would be paying for motel rooms,..That I do know,......Get the experience and in time you might be able to move on to better money,...

If you do run a day cab and want a nap, just throw a board across the seats with a cut out for the shifter, a blanket to soften the board, and a nice rolled up jacket for your pillow...........ah, I'm getting sleepy

You left this info out. If you feel like youre slumming, say something to the boss. Dont sit there and settle for 2nd rate.
Got a job with a constrution/demolition company, pulling heavy equipment on an RGN. Daycab truck with armstrong steering. AC??? HA!
Owner wants me to pull a dozer 90 miles out. Truck was a POS and the trailer wouldnt pass a DOT. He wanted me to avoid the scale and go around a mountain with an oversized, overweight load. First cop I would see would be a full grown bear. Ticket would be of biblical proportions.
So, I walked into the office and got into a huge shouting match with the owner. He got pissed at me and went out and bought a new daycab and lowboy and called me all kinds of names.
