Oh, and I did not mention that I NEVER spend more than 2 nights away from my family, even in the worst case scenario. The longest I could conceivebly be gone would be 48 hours. Maybe this is why I stick with this job.

700 miles
600 miles in the first 11 hours + 10 hour break + 1.5 to 2 hours for the last 100 miles...I'd need 23 hours to do that 700 miles. Thats only 1 day... -
For 2200 miles a week you are risking everything and gaining NOTHING.

I cannot win to lose. Either I am a sissy for not falsifying my log, or I am a dangerous criminal for doing so. But I do think there is a difference between fudging 1 hour and 7.
PharmPhail Thanks this. -
How about this, according to your log book:
Start driving the previous day for 1 hour.
Stop for 10 hours.
Drive 5.5
Unload for 2
Drive 5.5 more, and you are at home with your family. -
So just how much fudging is o.k.? 5 miles, 15 minutes, or is it 8 hours? I want your opinion of what is ok.

Another example of a "a full legal day"...I did this just last Thursday.
Got to Little Rock on Wednesday night around 10pm (central time), took my 10 hour break at our terminal there, left at 8:15am and got to the destination at 8:30...was empty at 9:45.
My phone rang...it was my Fleet Manager asking if I wanted to go home this weekend. I answered "Whatever is good for you is good for me...why do you ask?"
She said she had a load that delivers to my home town, and that the other guys truck is in the shop and the load is "time sensitive".
I said OK...went to the terminal, found the trailer, swapped equipment (chains, straps, etc.) hooked up and left Little Rock at 1:15...9 hours later, I was 606 miles away from Little Rock pulling in to the destination. (hows that for keeping the doors closed)
Since I used to work at the place I was delivering...I went in there and talked to James (receiving guy) and got unloaded Thursday night at about 1:30am (eastern time Friday)...5.5 hours before my appointment time.
Thats a full 14 hour day...after I got unloaded I dropped the trailer and bobtailed the few miles to my house.
Friday at 11:15am my Fleet Manager calls and says "enjoy your long weekend...You've earned it, call me Monday at 8:30am and we'll get you rolling again."
I got 2200 miles that week (4 day week....Monday was a holiday for the "normal" jobs, I made my first delivery for the week at 1am on Teusday...legally or as close to it as I could possibly get it, I did have to move to get parked that one time but I don't remember if that was on this week or the week before)
It can be done... -
None of it is OK...NONE.
But sometimes it cannot be avoided...sad but true. But to answer your question of how much is OK...the least amount that is possible. -
That is awesome. You did earn your long weekend.

We have 10 million Americans without jobs. I do not want to be in those ranks again. I guess I will have to do what I have to do until I get established with my boss. Perhaps then I can suggest a few things.
