I was lucky enough to get hired on at UPSF as a city P/D driver,........No more cars for me!!!!!!,.......
-
Do you drive a local postal route? Like put mail in folks mailboxes?
-
Well here is the problem. Up until now, I have driven a 7 car hauler, no hydraulics (except the ramp to the top).
-
It's a local ltl freight job,..home every night,...
-
I would love that, but I do not know of any LTL company that will take anyone with less than 2 years experience.

I am a semi local car hauler.
We only go 350 miles away from home, no qualcom. We match our tolls(if any) and fuel.
It takes me about 2hrs to load a 9-10car load, if all the cars are at the same place, which is 90% of the time, unloads are usually multiple stops.
We do not cross scales, and the boss will pay over length tickets.
on a standard 10 car high rail trailer, you can fit 9 chevy trailblazers or the like on the truck, you will be over length and and probably 13'8"
I use loading and unloading time to make my 10hr breaks, I stop 6-8hours to sleep at night when I am out, and never show more than 1hr to load the truck. Most 2-4 car unloads I only show 15min, this gets you inside the 14hrs easily.
I typically run 6-8am thru midnight. I run Illegal.
I know this is risky, but unless I want to make $800 a week on a local job this is the way I can support my family.
It is risky, if you are involved in a major accident, as the police will check up on your hours using cell phones and other methods. I could potentially go to jail for an accident I was not otherwise at fault for, but I am willing to risk it. I make a very good living and NO ONE will tell me how to provide for my family.
We are in a crappy industry that will jail you for working too much, but if a doctor pulls a 30hr shift and someone dies, he gets a wrist slap. If I hit a motorist that pulled out in front of me(at fault) and I am simply over my hours, I can go to jail, nice equal protection.

always pull everything then load.
Plan your stops, and then see how the load will go.
On a high rail trailer, you can load it almost anyway, minus h2's and pickups.
You will get it, ask the boss for advise on loading or a coworker.

I assume you have to actually be using your phone for them to trace it. Perhaps I need 2 phones. What other methods can they use?

I know car hauler have it tough. Years ago they are the ones that had the best white pills. But it's too risky for me and I would get out of it in a heart beat. You make $800 a week and I kept my record clearn and retired with $1650 a week. To me the object of driving is to kept your record clean the best you can and move up to the better paying jobs as you go. When you get towards retirement you should be working for a company that pays top wages with the best benefits. I know times are tough and jobs are hard to find but busting your as* for $800 a week is just not worth it to me. It may be utopia for others but if you sit down and figure the hours you put in your pay is not that great. Some say you have to run illegal to make it and I find that statement just stupid because I never got a ticket in over 20 years driving and I landed one of the top jobs because of it. So I guess I would say to those drivers keep running they way you are so the top jobs are open to the drivers that care about their careers. Don't get me wrong I've done things that could have gotten me in hot water, I just never got caught. But I was young and stupid plus incredible lucky. The end rusults were I got see what a real company pays and how they treat their drivers. BTW I made that weekly money with only working 60 hours a week.
If you have to run illegal then I would suggest that you look for another job. Don't quit until you find one and build your record so you are in demand. Right now if I were you I'd sit down with the boss and talk to him. If he tells you that's the way the industry is then just say I guess that's why they have the FMCSA. I've seen too mant drivers loose their careers because of accidents and have seen a couple get jail time. Who's going to feed your family then?tinytim Thanks this.
