I read on one of the FMCSA web sites that being up for 18 hours is just like having a BAC of .08. So lets just get rid of HOS regulations altogether, and start giving some "tired" tests, kind of like field sobriety tests for DUI. As I have heard many drivers say, and I agree: sometimes I am tired after 2 hours, other times I can go 15 hours.

Like I have said a couple of times,...The more you do this,.The faster you will get,...And you'll be able to run legal,...The loading/unloading is the biggest learning curve you face,...It will come t you,...

I have another idea. Tape 2 inch thick Styrofoam squares onto the vehicle you are loading, 1 on each side of the front bumper. Better yet, use self-adhesive Styrofoam blocks. Then cover the car with a car cover and drive up real fast until you hear a bump. Repeat until loaded, then secure. No scratches, no worries.

How do you document previous damage on a vehicle you are loading (such as scratches and dings)? Do you note it on the gate pass? I have an idea: go around the vehicle with a video camera before you load. Does anyone do this? It would seem faster to me.

That might be a bit extreme,.........But I have seen a couple of car haulers with blind spot mirrors mounted to the trailer in hard to see spots so they could see how close they were,.......

only for the spot behind the cab, and only for those with big bunks, with a 36"-42" bunk it is not needed, as most of the headracks are built to not allow you to get that close. My 63" sleeper wastes allot of room, I wish it was smaller. BUt I love the 550 CAT.

I used to run STUPID, when I first started car hauling, I spent so much time loading that I would run to the wee hours of the morning, then I got loading down and stopped doing that.

Now midnight is my cutoff, 1am at the latest, I need to find a suitable NON-TRUCKSTOP spot to sleep, too many of you BOX haulers have run in to me while sleeping, they cut around the nose of the truck and hit the car on the top.

I usually run 6-8am to midnight, get 6-8hrs of sleep, any more downtime and I would simply surf the web.
