Someone needs to teach you how to conserve on hours while still having logs that will pass DOT inspection. You need a chill veteran driver to explain the many ways.

Waiting inside the building wouldn't be on duty unless you were physically loading the trailer or counting product. Even then, I still wouldn't log it as on duty..

Someone on here put it best when they said that 70hrs is all we have of value as drivers. I protect that 70hrs as best I can and don't give any of it away if I can avoid it.

If you are in your sleeper while they are loading/unloading you are falsifying your logs to log on duty. All times in a sleeper is logged sleeper...
If you are in a break room, or waiting area, or such and not doing any work you can log off duty. You are not doing anything so save your 70.

    Lepton1 and IluvCATS Thank this.

Go play Xbox in your sleeper. Log sleeper berth when you aren’t doing anything. You don’t have to be sleeping.

I said waiting inside the waiting room at the shipper is on duty never said if I was in the truck I log on duty. I just do what my fleet manager tells me to log on duty inside the customer. Both the shipper and cosignee yesterday both required you be inside and one wouldn't let me back out the door to even grab my phone once I checked in. So if I'm trapped in a place of business for business I'm on duty. I hear what you are saying and a few others say that you aren't doing any work. I'm just new and don't want to piss off my fleet manager and do something wrong.

You will find as you go on that it’s often easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Yes, by the book, you might have to log it. But if you’re doing a lot of live loading and unloading, you’ll go broke.

7 hours, 200 miles? That doesn't make sense.

Here's the thing that would make question your future with me were I the employer, why would you wait until it was too late to let them know you wouldn't be delivering the load? You need to watch your hours and you should always be planning ahead. If you won't have enough time to complete a load you need to inform the company as soon as you can.

Whether you should log line 4 while waiting in the building is open to debate, I know I wouldn't. But again, you need to watch your clock and avoid putting yourself and the company in a situation like this.

I know it's been mentioned to you before but this isn't a hand holding type of job.

We have no way of answering your question about how the company will deal with it.

    Tb0n3, x1Heavy and Lepton1 Thank this.

No I had about 7 hours left from where I parked for the night. Total miles for the run was 315. I was told to go to a loves about 100 miles from there and a another driver will pickup. Leaves about 200 miles and I have 2:15 on my 70.

Driver took the load off me an hour ago I'm on a 34 reset now.

Lepton1, driverdriver and tinytim Thank this.
