Running out of options...need help or aome advice

    For me when I hire it's the insurance, you got one to two years and the insurance problem goes away. School does not teach you everything you need to know, craps, I'm 73 and still find new things almost daily, to most it's called, "paying your dues" Good luck

    Well I think you might do What Chinatown recommends and going with a straight truck company like Panther expidited since driving a straight truck is way easier then a 53 combination. Also, check with the LtL fleets or even try the local Trash company... But those are some options since you have a CDL w/o the 150 hours of class room time.

    Born in Jan. 1940 if my math is still working, I'm 73 right? My first truck was a Corbin with a 4 speed trans and powered by 200 come a long. I started driving when the only heater was on the right side and had a small fan about the size of a base ball. Bet you've never see a corbin?

    they say you need experience, and then you say you need experience, so why are you trying to get hired without experience? I waited too long after a 240 hour school so I know I have to do school over again. I'm actually happy to be able to go through it all again and get paid something for learning. Why not just go through the truck company's training school? They will re-train you even if you have a license if they don't take you because your school was not long enough or whatever.

    I actually do not think these companies are "stupid." This is a employer's market and they can afford to be picky. If not you, then some other job-hunter.

    You are not too good to be trained over again.

    I'm 70, my wife is 40, been married to her for 12 years, my youngest child is a first grader, my oldest child is 48 from one of my previous marriages, still CDL qualified, my Mother will be 100 in December and gets around better than I do. I drink at least 20 cups of coffee a day and tell myself I will live to at least 120. Old truckers should never give up until they pry that little blue pill from their cold, dead hand.

    your in a tuff hiring are but i would try either NFI [ out of new jersey ] or you might have to go local driving until something opens up. what i find confusing is, you have been a member on this board since 2009 ???? perhapse too late for your question

    I don't think Stevens is all that bad. From what I hear anyway. Are u really ready for this? Being forced out 6-8 weeks at a time if not more, traffic, bull crap from dispatchers, crappy pay, everyone treating you like you're the scum of the earth, did I say crap from dispatchers? There are many pluses, being by yourself, having a front row seat to the greatest movie, painting, experience that God created. Get the experience in, personally I think you did it the right way, you got your license and didn't invest a ton of money into something 90% of people end up getting out of. So what if you have to go with Stevens, put in your 6months to a year, keep your nose clean and then take your pick.

    When did these companies start making school mandatory ? I just went down to DMV and took the test. Next day bought a truck. Ins. Companies must be running things now....
    What gets me is they make the noobs jump through hoops and then try and pay them p-nuts.
    i don't understand how they ever keep drivers...
