I think he's ripping me off on the insurance fee, I dont think I'm supposed to be paying every week, you guys help me

I apologize for getting back to you so late. As for my friend, I would have to ask her first before I go giving out her information. She dispatches for her husband mainly but she has taken on 3 other drivers, last summer. I was mainly using her as a reference because she was the first one that takes only 10%, that came to my head. There are other dispatch services that have authority, and only take 10%, just far and few in between.

You have the insurance cab card, call them directly and get a quote, as far as paying when you aren't running the insurance doesn't take that week off with you, the trailer fee seems a little high, but depends on the year of the trailer and is he maintaining it? you can buy a used van for about $350 a month depending on the year etc, 10% for loads probably isn't bad if its his direct customer, brokers would be taking more than that.

Yes you are supposed to be paying every week, you are leased to an authority and the insurance has to be maintained whether you drive or not.

I was the first person who posted this question here, in 2013. I researched and more research and asked many questions and I did not run under my friends Authority, because it was a bad idea. I rather learn from other people's mistake, having said that , I worked for a company that moved containers. this company put me under their authority/ insurance, I paid about 20% total.
The reason I did that? I did have 0 experience as a driver and as business owner. No insurance wanted me, period! I never drove for anyone nor I went to any school to get my CDL. I studied the test and I practiced PTI and learned how to drive my friends semi trucks for a couple of months, therefore no one wanted to hired me or insured me. so, I said F.. them.
after 8 months of moving containers I got my own MC. I bought 2 other used pos trucks and I continued getting my experience managing other people for about 2 years. It was very stressful.
I sold my 3 trucks and I bought a almost new freightliner and a new reefer (making payments) I drive OTR since 2015. I'm a 100% independent O/O . I look for my own loads, I drive , I do my ifta , and more importantly I go anywhere I want and I can refuse to haul a load if I don't get the rate I want and I'm not afraid to say F**U if I feel disrespected or insulted.
I feel like I paid my dues for 2 years and I think that was more than enough!
freedom is not cheap, but is doable and any one can do it. The question is how bad you want it!
for me is not about the money. Is about being independent... I know someone here is going to say "no one is independent " " We work for someone" I will say yes pos, I used Microsoft and Bill gates work for me, because if I don't like his product I buy apple and whoever owns apple , now works for me.....did you get my point???
I used to blame companies for exploiting their drivers, not any more. I think you get what you deserve.
the more lease operators, the more "o/o" exist, the more stronger those mega trucking companies become. so grow a pair and do your own thing and don't blame or whine when companies don't pay you what you think you deserve.
No offense guys, but some of you are very smart and helped me a lot and I have a lots of respect for you guys.

Unbelievable!!!!! you go thru all this headache to end up working for some else??? seriously????

"No headaches with permits, insurance ,maint, cargo claims ,or getting paid every week. Imo .40discount in fuel free trailer and reefer fuel safety bonuses reimbursement of my tags and book my own freight off DAT ill give you 30%. For now[/QUOTE]
this is your argument for helping mega companies to keep gaining strength in this industry??? " no headaches" uh. take an advil, grown a pair and be a real o/o. Even, people who barely speak English have the balls to be real 100% independent O/O . don't let negative people lie to you or stop lying to yourself.

Ive crunched the number using my truck progarm between 70% 85%. The difference is only 400.00 a week based on 30k i did in Dec. I cant afford my own authority due to accident last winter. So it is what it is. Ive always worked 70% done really well . I take 3 months off every yr. That the trade off. Lower my expenses take more home

Hi: No, no Don't pay more than a 10% fee that includes the dispatch fee>
If you have your own truck, Trailer, and most important Insurance.
Also is not that hard to get your own authority!is not expensive the only inconvenience you will have is if you have your own load board when you try to book a load because you don't have a record of moving loads, in other words, no history, But once you book your first load, pick up on time! drop on time you are set up! Be careful with brokers!
