Jeeze that makes it almost pointless, because you're withholding their taxes, AND you're paying the employeer part of SS and medicare, AND you'll have to pay SUTA and FUTA for them...AND you're responsible if they have child support withholdings to remit them on time.... I mean, you get to write them down as business expenses, most of them anyways, but..jeeze. I saw how expensive it got for the company I worked for to convert me to employee from contractor (It was a 2 person place, just me and the owner) I was almost like just leave me contractor and give me that money as a raise....LOL
Will all of this cause me to take home less? Or about the same as if I was solo? They said I can split the money into 3 accounts so if I did 30 for him 30 for truck 40 for me would that work?
About the post concerning how your second seat,(employee), is paid, I have no clue. I team with Wifey and all monies go to her, lol. In all seriousness, the weekly settlements are to me, then the net is deposited into our account. I am the primary signee on the lease contract.
Funny, I'm not a team driver either and my pay is set up the same, Settlement is to me, and all my money goes to the wife... Odd...
Hooked to empty here at the yard yesterday. It started fine yesterday while it was warm outside. Got up this morning to 30 degree temps and the reefer wouldn't start. Tried jump starting it and no go. Left my cables on it for 30min and still no go. So I tagged it and hooked to another empty. Called breakdown and told them about it and what I had done and my solution. She was surprised I did that because most people wouldn't do that. I agreed with her and said "Yep, most would have hooked and booked and found out at the shipper that it was bad." She then told me she has on the list for Monday repairs with another trailer. I think (and so does breakdown) that the battery is shot with the possibility of the alternator not charging properly.
