You can modify and set it to your desires. It will display 4 different readings at one time. The 4 I use myself are: INSTANT MPG, AVERAGE MPG, GPH (gallons per hour), BST (turbo boost).
Some other ones you can monitor: CPM (cents per mile), RPM, SPEED, WATER TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, ENGINE LOAD, THROTTLE POSITION, HORSEPOWER, TRIP FUEL COST, AIR INTAKE TEMP, VOLTAGE.
You can set the trip computers to TODAY & YESTERDAY or TRIPS A & B.
I set mine to trips A & B. I monitor my MPG for empty miles, reset then monitor loaded miles. I keep trip A for today's stats, trip B for overall leg (empty or loaded). I then use a spread sheet which I input all my data so I can see how a particular run/route performs . When I have choice of loads, I can look and choose the most profitable load based on previous performance to maximize my income. I know EXACTLY how many gallons I used for, say, Sapulpa to Tolleson and my MPG and compare Sapulpa to LA area and see which run gives me the best fuel economy.
I monitor my exact MPG and can make adjustments to my speeds immediately. I never use cruise control so I can adjust immediately by looking at my INSTANT MPG & GPH. I know regardless of which mountain I'm climbing, 5%, 6%, or whatever, I'm burning 18 gallons per hour with my foot on the floor. I can back off and burn 14 gallons per hour and take a little longer to climb, but save fuel and know instantly where my speed and pedal needs to be.
I maximize my economy and know exactly the parts of the country that are more profitable for me based on fuel economy. I have a 2.5 year history of performance in this truck I can reference.
I use it to tell me how much fuel I have left more accurately than the trucks fuel gauge. I know at any given time how many gallons I have left regardless of the needle reading on my dash (which sucks btw). I know EXACTLY what my MPG for that tank is at anytime between fuels, no need to wait to fuel up to know that info.
Bottom line, it's a tool to help you squeeze out more pennies per mile to your pocket.
Another thing it does is scan for engine codes. Now trying to decipher the codes is another story, esp the ones on a Detroit Diesel. You can also clear out codes (which I don't recommend).
It was definitely worth the $139 I paid for mine. Easily made up that savings in fuel in a months time.
I love mine and regardless of what gauges come on a truck, I will always have a Scan Gauge D in my truck.kanidana, popcorn169, Kamkor and 3 others Thank this. -
I've ordered one also. I really appreciate all the talk and advice from everybody here who has it now. Can't wait to get back to va to instal it.Steel Tiger Thanks this. -
The Qualcomm mpg system reset the other day just inside the CA state line on i40.
These mx13 motor tran setups are great at 65-70mph but at 55-60 they really suck. 10th gear at 55mph is around 10000 rpm. Down shift to 9th and its around 15000.
With the Qualcomm resetting I finally realized how bad 55mph does. 5.6mpg first 170 miles in CA. Hilly but still...
This truck needs to be in the wind! Lol
