Just shut down north of Little Rock, 604 miles today. Still at 7.2 mpg over the last 2130 miles. All but 2 fuel purchases, below national avg price. Those 2 were small, strategic buys in Cali. Overall, feeling pretty good with 2 more days to cover 1050 miles to the receiver. And. My wife says the roads in Oklahoma suck. Her words exactly. lol

Oh, wanted to add that I got one of the dreaded R trailers with duals and no aero enhancements.

Richfield, UT.? I thought they (JCT) had already shut us down as far as running on I-70 between I-25 and I-15? I'm not trying to start trouble, just curious. LOL.

Unofficially, we can run that until November 1st. You'll still have to get permission in case you're low on HOS and need a relay. Ginny gave me the ok this morning.

Thank you for this thread. It gives me hope and something to shoot for when I get into this new world. I am currently in school and going for the oilfields after. However, this thread is making think about OTR and being my own "boss" in the future.

Thanks Sharpp. I never asked for details, buts I recall, I was told "no I-70 through the winter." So Nov. 1st makes sense. I just try to avoid it from the first report of winter weather to be safe.ave a good trip and keep the shiny side up!

The wind in Wyoming was brutal yesterday. Even though I no longer pay for my own fuel anymore I still drive like I do. A 40 mph quartering head wind from Cheyenne to Evanston was no joke.

On a funny note though, I found out yesterday if the shipper over fills the airbags in the trailer (the ones they put between pallets) that a large increase in alltitude, say on top of Sherman on I-80, will cause them to explode. I got the #### scared out if me when one went halfway down the hill. Thought it was a tire.

So I decided in preparation to doing whatever I'm going to do I'd try out the new road division of LTL outfit I'm at to dust of my trip planning skills.

In talking with the terminal manager and division manager they both seemed put off when they made a comment about stretching but not breaking the rules running paper logs and I said I didn't play funny numbers in my book. 15min is one things but tbey were talking running an hour over for "a load that has to deliver."

    This doesn't bode well...

No this doesn't, and it shouldn't! this kis not something that should ever be done, now if you can tighten up things to where it is legal and you only bluff a few minutes and the MPH still fits then so be it, do what you need to. It is your score as well as theirs. Good luck.

It's what I'm doing this week. Normally, we reset every weekend but Mr. Dispatcher didn't give me the two 1-5 a.m. slots. And because 8 days ago was a no-work Sunday, I gained zero hours. Since I only had about 11 left over from last week and am running through Greater Detroit's rush hours (both of them), my day has been one of preplan-cancel-preplan-cancel-preplan. Fortunately, I gain 12+ hours tonight so making the 7-hour drive to southern Wisconsin from Detroit's Ambassador Bridge won't be a problem.

#Recap? Hah! I laugh at recaps.

By far the scariest drive I've ever made was in a Pontiac Bonneville station wagon long ago, pulling an overloaded U-Haul trailer from Southern California to Greeley, Colorado in winter. For some unknown reasons, I chose to go over a Wolf Creek Pass. In a very serious snowstorm. With an Old English Sheepdog, Sam, as my companion. And aforementioned overloaded trailer.

I only recall following the blue flashing lights on the plow in front of me because that's all I could see. I have never been so scared. Even in the jungles of Viet Nam or the Combat Zone of Boston.
