..."It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...." Howdy y'all! I hope everyone's having a good day. I found out yesterday that my DM has left JCT to pursue other options. This initially had me worried, since we worked well together and were familiar with each other personality wise and also regarding work ethic). But after contemplating a while, I decided this situation can be a good thing. I now get to cultivate a relationship with my new DM, which lets me get to know more of the staff at JCT. It'll be business as usual for me, just with a new DM is all. I can only see good things coming of this as the future rolls on. Oh yeah, before I forget..."Please, be my neighbor!" LOL.

Well a long day of loading is done. 3 picks and scaled out at 73k gross extremely light for me and my tractor trailer set up. 492 miles driven in this state with a fair amount of wind and jumping the hill to Salinas and back still finished the day up at 9.01 too bad I won't be able to say the same tomorrow after climbing Tehachapi and flagstaff lol.

Well for anyone headed west on I-80 between Cheyenne, Wy and Laramie, Wy it is closed. I have been sitting here for a while.
Dag on winter!!!!!!!! LOL
The running has been good so I can not complain. I also got a new DM because mine left also. I really like the company so far and I have been running around 3000+ a week. I just rarely get on here to type up anything. To all my cohorts at JCT keep the Rubber SIDE down!!!!! -
To me, the answer is really specific to each individual. One must know why one wants to leave the "security" of being a company driver - especially when the cpm seems to be both significantly different and a very big deal to the OP - and into the less-secure and a bit uncertain but more exciting because of the challenge inherent world of truck leasing.
In my case, I already make more than 42 cpm when divided out (not including the per diem), even though I'm not paid by the mile, so that's not a factor at all. I also don't care about owning a power unit at the end, so that's not a factor, either. To me, the important things are, in no particular order, the equipment and maintenance of it, the lease specifics, and the general sense in the attitudes of the employees at all levels, including driver managers, planners, and executives (really now, what kind of maniacal owner gives you title to the truck for $1.00 at the end of your lease?), and the length of haul.
The next guy might think I'm nuts to consider a lease - and there is at least one on another part of TTR whose disgust with me turned into large font, red-letter personal insults (and he leases, by the way; weird.) - and that's okay; I'm not trying to change anyone's opinions, just make up my own mind.
I think knowing what's important to you should be the first and probably the most critical step. Everything flows from that knowledge and analysis. -
I'm getting unloaded in El Monte. Got a preplan this morning picking up in the LA area going to Woodburn, OR.
October has been a good month. My GPS odometer says that I've driven 12,600 miles this month, and I should be able to run another 900 by tomorrow night. That will be back-to-back 13,500 mile months. Most DEFINITELY taking some time off next month!
My safety bonus for the quarter is $742. That's 74,200 pennies earned in 3 months at 2 pennies per mile! I'll let YOU do the math, lol.
The way the trips fell, I ended up getting paid for 3,900 miles on this week's settlement. Along with the safety bonus, tomorrow's check is for over $2,500. I'll tally up October later and see how the month turned out.
If Wyoming ever opens up I-80, Soule_Man and I might get a chance to meet up in Portland. I owe him a steak dinner, but I'm going to try to get that fat-### to eat a salad!Jarhed1964 and luvtotruck Thank this. -
