I just ran US 36 all the way from Denver to Decatur, IL about a month ago. It cut off quite a few hours VS running interstates 70 to 55 to 72 to Decatur, which is the way I ran out there. US 36 isn't bad running at all. Cell service sucks in a few places though.

I finally finished reading this thread. There is some really good info here. Thanks guys. I lease from another company. I have been looking to get away from it. I have some things to think about.

Wow, just finished two back to back 630-mile days starting in central Florida, stopping tonight in St Joseph, MO. at the Loves Sharpp mentioned a day or so ago. (Thanks Sharpp!) Have another 400 to do for delivery tomorrow evening in North Platte, NE. Planned on fueling up upon arrival here, but got spooked by my first impressions and dove into a parking space instead. Was exhausted anyway from fighting a wicked crosswind on the last leg across 70 from St Louis. Back of my trailer was pushed so hard I could verify the door seal was intact and tail lamps still worked by just looking in the right mirror! That's fine, the truck will be slurping up 130 gals of delicious, cheap fuel before leaving tomorrow, saving about $42 off the national avg price! Got 6.4 mpg for the day, which brought down mpg for my last 1,907mi to 6.6, also due to running hard, and a few "hills" in GA, TN. Good thing I have a full aero trailer with super-singles, too!
Tired, but get to sleep in tomorrow; loving it!Last edited: Nov 8, 2013
Sharpp, luvtotruck and DADof3 Thank this. -

Already have a preplan to Sacramento, but can only make salt lake city before running out of hrs on my 70, they understand it will require a relay, but at least I can make the pickup. .. now I know what it means to smoke your logbook!

It does not take long on these long hauls to smoke the log book lol.
Well I'm in Ponca city loading for Portland. With the wind out of the south, this should be interesting to see how well the mileage is. -
Okay not good... my plan for an on time delivery is shot. Discovered a trailer brake shoe "askew" this morning, drove around the lot when getting fuel to see if that helped, ...NOT! Shop says it "cammed over", so getting some brake work done before heading out... better safe than sorry for sure on brakes!
I'll recover the schedule as best I can, see what happens. .. BUT at least I got the cheap fuel plus DEF, (can't forget the DEF!) -
I'm sitting at the Loves in Lufkin, TX after picking up yesterday in Shepardsville, IN. I have a civilized noon appointment time (compared to that 01:30 time in Indiana!) tomorrow in Houston. No pre-plan outta here yet, but I'll bet it'll be California.
Despite some dubious reviews on Yelp and Google, I'm going to walk over to the Catfish King restaurant. It's either that or Subway again! The place looked pretty busy when I saw it off the exit ramp. I'm thirsty for some Shiner, but I don't know if they serve beer at all. Ah well, catfish and iced tea is good too. This Loves has some speedy internet so at least I'll have some entertainment later.
I'm in a string of great week/bad week/great week. This week is looking like a great week. If I catch the right trip, I'll have a 3,500 mile week. I'm on pace for another 13,000 mile month, but I'm planning on some Thanksgiving time off so maybe 10 or 11k is more realistic.luvtotruck and Turbojet Thank this. -
I am on my way to Houston TX as well. I am in Cheyenne for the night and have only 8hrs coming back tomorrow. Luckily my truck is governed at an ungodly speed and I am not paying for the fuel. My last tank I am down to 5.14mpg which I thought is not to bad for being heavy and running that fast. I will be bumping my 70 all the way to Houston to get there for a Tuesday morning appointment at Kroger.
When or is there such a thing as a good time to get through DFW? That will be my Monday treat.
