Laramie to Rawlins was a bit snowy and windy. Saw a semi rolled over, tires up. Lots of breakdowns too, all over the place. Extremely windy! Stopped at the J in Rawlins for hot soup, back on the road again. Hope that was the worst of it.

And it's nice that the plow on your left was blowing the snow to your side. Bums.

I'm running with a load of chicken from Carthage, TX to Modesto, CA. That's 1,959 miles including deadhead IF I had gone through Dallas. After talking with three JCT drivers who were stuck there, I decided to head south!
There is an impenetrable 4-6" sheet of ice covering the DFW metroplex. I planned to run down US 84 to Brownwood and then angle up to Abilene where rumor had it that the big road was passable. Down where I was running it was wet and clear. As soon as I started heading northwest, I started to see chunks of ice and then the road was glazed over. I made the first left that I could and headed back south. Soule_Man was giving me details of his sledding across the Dallas icecap. There are some good stories from up there and I hope he finds the time to post them here!
The weather was clearing as I got further west, but there was still quite a bit of ice on the road. Finally, I came to a "Y" in the road and had to decide whether to try the north again or give it up and go through Phoenix. It wasn't much of a choice as all I heard from I-20 was tales of woe and truck stops with no fuel.
This is going to add a few miles to my trip, but I think I can sweet talk my DM into a post-mortem reroute to pay for some of this. After all, I might have the ONLY on-time delivery from the Dallas area this week!RizenPhoenix, The Challenger, luvtotruck and 3 others Thank this. -

After a brutal day of icy roads, high winds and blowing snow along I-80 westbound, I'm hanging it up for the nite at the TA Fort Bridger, WY, ughh... a fresh round of snow is starting, a winter wx advisory is in effect all the way to salt lake cty until 9am, with some long, steep downhill grades waiting for us only an hour or so ahead in the dark, not wise for this newbie to attempt until daylight, when the snow winds down and the road crews have had a chance to do their thing overnite. This load will be late, but I have to get it there safely first.

Howdy y'all! I made it safely to my consignee here in Kirkwood, NY. (from Lake Wales, FLA.). It's been quite eventful. Plenty of wrecks along the way from NC to NY, with the rain, then snow and ice. I narrowly avoided being caught up in one too. I had moved to the left lane to pass what I first thought was a slow moving truck, then quickly realized that he was stopped. As I passed him (he had no triangles out and no 4-way flashers on) I heard a big bang and crunch. I looked in my passenger side mirror and saw the tail lights of a car spinning off into the center median. I called the state police and 911 (I hope everyone is alright), but couldn't stop as there was more traffic following behind me. That was a close one.
flyboynme and luvtotruck Thank this.
