Having had a 45 year career in all levels of professional aviation, I raised children while I was gone and while I had a M-F job. I can tell you that trying to develop a quality family environment while you are on the road or in the air is not possible. It's the main reason the divorce rate among professional pilots is so high - and why I have a very, um, "strained" relationship with some of my older children and a very strong bond with my younger ones.

I do NOT recommend raising a family while driving a truck or flying an airplane. It's a lesson I learn far too late and one I regret every day.

Wow. I only paid $450 for mine and $80 in labor, and I felt ripped off. :/

I hope all of you found ScanGauges in your Christmas stockings and are ready to run some miles this year! I picked up this morning in Colton, CA and got rolling east going to Ochelata, OK. A few phone calls from some fellow JCT drivers established the fact that I was in the garden spot of the country with my sunny and 68 degree weather, lol. That's going to change pretty quick! Anyway, a nice 1,600+ paid mile trip to start off 2014 has me in a good mood.

My New Year's goals? I want to run an average of 11,000 miles per month. I've been exceeding that for the last couple of years, and it's time to slow it down a bit. Is it too much to ask to average 7.0 mpg this winter? I think not. Maybe shoot for 7.7 mpg when the summer blend comes around. I'm shooting for a new truck by April 1st. This year (like last) I vow to feed no bears and have no incidents. Keeping the truck out of the weeds is a reasonable goal, I think. Finally, I would like to meet more of you TTR members this year. Alright. See you down the road!

Got an email from Sarah saying that she was running all the things she needs to run and then will get back to me when she has them back... Not totally sure yet that I want to go back OTR. Trying to think this one through all the way.

I will be interested to see how often you're able to swing by the house... We live south of you in Sac, and are keeping our eye out for 'options' :)

Yeah im very cautious about switching from the gig I have now... I want the options of a o/o but really like my hometime schedule right now. Also will be interested to see what type of load it will take to get home... most likely will be long deadheads home

Lady K and Rugerfan I thought that they had a lot of freight going to California. Is it that you live to far in or what?

It took about a week, but it was during the holidays. I ended up going with Pullen Brothers.
